Adani Defence announces INR 10,000 cr investment to boost India’s defence manufacturing

Over the coming years, Adani Defence and Aerospace intends to invest INR 10,000 crore in a variety of defence and aerospace business sectors. According to Ashok Wadhawan, head of Land Systems, the group has so far invested INR 5,000 crore in a number of other projects.  The company now manufactures cups, cases, and projectiles at its Kanpur factory, which produces small-calibre ammunition. The remaining components, primer and propellant plants, should be up and running by 2028. He said that India won't require any imports once these factories are completely operating. "Our supply chain will be 100% indigenous," he stated.

300 Million Round- Annual Production of the Factory

The plant can produce up to 300 million rounds a year. It is anticipated that the medium-calibre ammunition will start operating in January 2027, while the large-calibre facility will be operational by January 2026. Additionally, Adani Defence is growing its production base. The plot area has been increased to 750 acres at its Kanpur location, encompassing facilities for ammunition, missiles, and energetics. The 20-acre Hyderabad plant is also being expanded to include electronic warfare, loitering weapons, and unmanned systems.

Wadhawan further emphasised that the need for drones, loitering, missiles, ammunition, and counter-drone systems has increased since Operation Sindoor. These sectors, along with other capabilities like artillery weapons and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), have formed part of the company's strategic roadmap.
