Alphabet Eyes Major Bengaluru Hiring Push with 20,000 New Jobs

Google's parent company, Alphabet, is planning to take up a huge office block in Bengaluru in order to expand its operations in India. This might result in the creation of as many as 20,000 new jobs. This decision is made in light of the fact that American businesses are finding it more difficult to recruit foreign talent. This is mainly due to tighter visa regulations, especially in relation to the H-1B programme. Thus, India is quickly becoming a major hub for tech talent from around the world.

How Alphabet is Executing its Bengaluru Expansion?

One Alembic City office tower is leased by Alphabet, while two more are available as possibilities. Located in Whitefield, a significant IT area in east Bengaluru, Alembic City is a massive commercial development. The total floor area of the three skyscrapers is close to 2.4 million square feet. Soon, staff will be able to move into the first tower, which has already been rented.

Next year should see the completion of the final two towers. Up to 20,000 wAnthrorkers might be housed on the property if Alphabet ultimately takes up all three towers. The current headcount in India is about 14,000, so this would more than quadruple that number. Roughly 190,000 individuals work at Alphabet around the world. Alphabet has established a strong presence in various cities across India, with Bengaluru serving as its primary hub.

In the United States, President Donald Trump has tightened immigration policies, against which the expansion occurs. It is now more expensive and more difficult to get Indian engineers to the US. Mainly due to new regulations and steeply increased costs for H-1B work visas, which can reach $100,000 per application. U.S. tech corporations are already bolstering their personnel abroad as a result of this. India has emerged as a top destination, particularly for AI-related positions, because of its abundance of qualified engineers.

India Alluring Global AI Players

The worldwide struggle for supremacy in artificial intelligence is also associated with India's rising profile. Anthropic PBC and OpenAI are just two of the companies that have lately increased their footprint in the nation. In January, Anthropic selected Irina Ghose, a former executive at Microsoft, to head up its operations in India.

"India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale," Ghose remarked.  Google has been expanding at a tremendous pace. Its biggest campus was constructed last year in Bengaluru. Since then, hundreds of job postings have been listed, including positions in machine learning, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and chip design. In order to create generative AI tools, YouTube is also recruiting engineers.
