Mangaluru has become the new destination for Deloitte (one of the world’s biggest professional services companies). Romal Shetty, Deloitte’s CEO for South Asia, at TiEcon Mangaluru 2026 (event) on January 17, has confirmed that it will hire 50,000 professionals in India. He says that Mangaluru is on Deloitte’s radar, and it's a matter of when, not if, anymore.

As a matter of fact, Deloitte almost entered Mangaluru earlier. He has proposed a new idea: creating “Digital Economic Zones,” given the city's strong talent pool and evolving real estate market. For more insights on the subject matter and the event, learn more.

How Big Is Deloitte in India Already?

Currently, Deloitte employs over 1,40,000 professionals in India. The company has offices in major cities such as Mumbai, Gurugram, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. It expects the number to grow more in the days to come. And now it plans to enter Tier II and Tier III cities via GCCs. Therefore, India is not a small office for Deloitte, but a huge global base.

Romal Shetty, Deloitte’s CEO for South Asia, said, “India is a powerhouse of GCCs. Fifty per cent of all global GCCs are in India. There is still a lot of potential here, especially from a Tier II and Tier III city point of view.”

Romal Shetty Say About Innovation and India’s Future

Shetty emphasised that:

  • More money should go into R&D.
  • India's growth is incomplete unless 200+ cities grow and prosper (alongside the big metro cities like Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, etc.).
  • India must innovate for "Bharat" (meaning becoming more independent to fulfil real Indian needs, not just global markets).

Final Thoughts...

Deloitte's plan to hire 50,000 employees in India is indeed good news. After this event, it has become clear that it's time for Tier II and Tier III cities. Deloitte setting foot in Mangaluru will be a game-changer. However, there's no confirmation on the timeline for when the office could be open in the city.
