Hard Rock Cafe Closes 10 India Outlets After Ending JSM Franchise Agreement
The illustrious Hard Rock Café's parent company, Hard Rock International, announced the termination of its partnership with JSM Corporation, an Indian franchisee, on March 16th. Consequently, ending business as usual at all locations. Sanjay Mahtani and Jay Singh's JSM Corporation brought the brand, which is widely associated with rock music, to India in 2005.
The brand launched its first store in Worli, Mumbai. In due time, it spread to other large urban centres. Jitendra Virwani, managing director of the Embassy Group in Bengaluru, acquired a share in the company when Jay Singh left about 2017. Currently, ten Hard Rock outlets in Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, and Pune are scheduled to close.
Future of Hard Rock Café in India
The Hard Rock Hotel in Goa will continue to operate and is not affiliated with this operator, according to a statement from the company. In addition to introducing the high-end dining concept Shiro to the Indian market, JSM brought the international chains Hard Rock Cafe and California Pizza Kitchen to the country in 2004. Will this be an eternal farewell? No way.
According to sources who spoke with a media outlet, the eateries will most likely reopen after finding a new partner. Hard Rock International has been vague about why it is terminating its partnership with its Indian affiliate. The sole statement made by the firm was the termination of the franchise agreement that included all Hard Rock Cafes and Rock Shops in India. The American Hard Rock Cafe first opened its doors in 1971. Rock music, American cuisine, and an extensive collection of music memorabilia have made it famous all over the world. There was a point when it was hugely popular among India's youth and IT community.
Shutting Hard Rock Cafés Leading to Job Losses
According to various estimates, hundreds of employees working at the affected outlets are expected to be affected by the shutdown. Customers were taken aback by the abrupt closing of places famous for live concerts, themed events, and displays of music memorabilia. A popular spot for music enthusiasts in a number of big Indian cities has gone due to the change.
According to those in the know, this is part of a larger trend of franchise shake-ups the brand has been doing around the world. No public statement has been made by JSM Corporation, the company responsible for bringing Hard Rock to India more than ten years ago.
