IKEA Starts Online Delivery Services Across Tamil Nadu, Boosts South India Presence
Ikea, a Swedish furniture store, declared that it will begin shipping items online in Tamil Nadu from January 22. EV-powered doorstep deliveries will begin in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Salem, giving clients access to more than 6,400 options for home furnishings. The company's Bengaluru distribution network will handle all orders in Tamil Nadu. With more than 25,000 customers now enrolled in the Ikea loyalty programme, the firm stated in a press statement that Tamil Nadu has demonstrated a great passion for Ikea's home furnishing solutions. Let’s dig in how company is planning to execute its expansion.
TN Becomes the new Hunting ground from Ikea
Ikea's online launch in Tamil Nadu in 2026 is particularly significant, according to Patrik Antoni, CEO of Ikea India, as the company works to expand and fortify its position in South India. In a market that has already demonstrated a deep affection for Ikea, the firm is thrilled about the opportunity to meet customers where they are, assist daily life at home, and establish enduring relationships.
Antoni went on to say that this launch is a significant step in the process of Ikea learning something new from every market and every home. The lessons learnt here will assist in determining the best sites and shape future shopping models. Ikea's long-term omnichannel adventure in Chennai began with this debut, and its future shops and products here will be shaped by e-commerce and planning services data.
Ikea Earns 30% Via Online Sales in India
More than 30% of Ikea India's total sales come from the internet. Ikea India's country e-commerce manager, Bhavana Jaiswal, had previously stated that this tendency was still growing in double digits when the company began operating online in Delhi-NCR in February of last year. It is a pleasure for Tamil Nadu to welcome Ikea to Chennai, and the state anticipates the opening of its first retail location in the city soon, according to T R B Rajaa, minister for industries, investment promotion, and commerce.
The state government is optimistic that the establishment of Ikea's online store in Chennai will improve last-mile logistics and supply chains in the area. Under the direction of Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, M K Stalin, the state aims to facilitate inclusive, technology-driven growth in which multinational corporations strengthen their ties to Tamil Nadu and expand alongside the state's economy. At the moment, Ikea has physical locations in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and New Delhi. It also provides online delivery services in Maharashtra (including Pune), Andhra Pradesh-Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Delhi-NCR, Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Varanasi, and Goa.
