Microsoft has announced a new $17.5 billion (approximately INR 1.6 lakh crore) investment in India, weeks after Google announced a $15 billion AI hub and data centre plan. In a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 December, global CEO Satya Nadella outlined the company's intention to expand skilling and ongoing operations in addition to augmenting cloud and AI infrastructure in the country.

This statement highlights the significance of India in Microsoft's worldwide strategy and is the company's largest-ever investment in Asia. The business has committed to investing $20.5 billion (more than INR 1.8 lakh crore) in India over the next four years, adding to the $3 billion declared at the beginning of the year.

The investments mark India's AI moment, according to Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia.
