OpenAI Bags record $110 billion investment, backed by Amazon and Nvidia

The announcement by OpenAI on 27 February of a $110 billion funding round, which would put the ChatGPT creator's valuation at $840 billion. This development indicates a rapid increase in investment in AI. Just before the AI startup is set to have its mega-IPO later this year, a $30 billion investment came from SoftBank, $30 billion from Nvidia, and $50 billion from Amazon. Tech giants and investors like SoftBank are rushing to form alliances with OpenAI. One of the major global AI players, OpenAI, is currently spending substantially on data centres in the hopes of gaining an advantage in the artificial intelligence race.

Amazon and OpenAI Joining Forces to Enhance AI Sector

The initial investment for Amazon will be $15 billion. Once these milestones are reached, an additional $35 billion will be invested in the next months. Amazon and OpenAI have also reached an agreement in addition to the investment. With this agreement, OpenAI will have access to 2 GW of computing power from Amazon's own Trainium CPUs. OpenAI Frontier, developed by ChatGPT, is an enterprise platform for creating, deploying, and managing artificial intelligence agents.

Microsoft And OnpenAI Agreement Remains Intact

The current relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft will remain unchanged as a result of the agreement. Both businesses have confirmed that OpenAI's APIs, which give access to OpenAI's models, are still exclusively available on Microsoft Azure. Microsoft maintains its monopoly on the licence and access to intellectual property for all OpenAI models and products. Further, Azure will remain the host for OpenAI's first-party products. Whether Nvidia's $30 billion investment supersedes its September announcement of a $100 billion investment in the business is unclear at this time. When media houses asked for clarification, neither OpenAI nor Nvidia responded right away.

OpenAI Brings Onboard Indian Entrepreneur

To formally expand its on-the-ground support for companies building production-grade AI systems, OpenAI has appointed Arjun Gupta, founder of an Indian firm, as its first solutions architect in the nation. Formerly of AuraML, where he was both co-founder and chief technologist, Gupta is now a part of the Go-To-Market (GTM) team at the company.

AuraML is a new company that specialises in synthetic data and generative robotics simulations. On LinkedIn, Gupta made the announcement. With the help of OpenAI models, Gupta stated in his post that he would assist founders in moving from the experimental phase to the full-scale deployment phase.
