PM Modi Launches Skyroot’s Infinity Campus, India’s 1st Private Commercial Rocket Hub
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled Vikram-I, India's first privately developed orbital rocket, and virtually opened Skyroot Aerospace's Infinity Campus in Hyderabad. He said that India is poised to become a global leader in satellite launch systems and described the accomplishment as a testament to the nation's credibility and inventiveness.
India has developed its own emblem in the space industry, according to Prime Minister Modi, in terms of credibility, capability, and value. He went on to say that Pawan Chandana and Bharath Daka, the creators of Skyroot, are excellent role models for the nation's youth. Speaking at the occasion, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that the expansion of the private space industry, led by businesses such as Skyroot, is a clear result of the government's policies intended to promote private entrepreneurship and innovation in the space industry.
India Created a Space Empire from a Scratch: Modi
From carrying rocket parts on a bicycle to creating the most dependable launch vehicles in the world, India has demonstrated that the height of dreams is determined not by resources but by resolve, Prime Minister Modi said, highlighting that the country's aspirations were never limited despite the fact that its space journey started with limited resources.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised the "historic reforms" that allowed private innovation in India's space sector, such as the establishment of IN-SPACe and the new space policy, as well as the facilitation of industrial support through ISRO. The PM highlighted that credibility, capacity, and value have established India's unique character in the space industry while recounting ISRO's success narrative. ISRO has been giving India's space voyage fresh wings for decades. He added that there are already more than 300 space firms, many of which begin with modest funding but lofty goals.
The PM went on to say that this sparked a revolution in private space in India. India now has a distinct identity in the global space industry thanks to the innovative technologies being developed by Gen-Z scientists, engineers, designers, and programmers.
What is Infinity Campus?
With its state-of-the-art facilities, the 'Infinity Campus' could produce one rocket per month. It is anticipated that this will significantly enhance India's private space capabilities. The site occupies an enormous workspace of 200,000 square feet. Skyroot's first orbital rocket, the Vikram-I, was introduced with the purpose of launching satellites into orbit.
India's place in the global commercial launch industry would be further solidified by its successful deployment. IIT alums Pawan Chandana and Bharath Dhaka, who were once ISRO scientists, formed Skyroot Aerospace, which has become a pioneer. With the launch of their suborbital spacecraft, Vikram-S, in November 2022, the business became the first private Indian company to successfully send a rocket into space. It is anticipated that the Vikram-I rocket and the new Infinity Campus will allow Skyroot to move from suborbital launches to full-fledged commercial orbital flights.
