RBI Grants Razorpay Cross-Border Licence, Enabling Seamless Global Transactions
Razorpay for Businesses, a payments and banking platform, announced on 2 December that it has obtained a Payment Aggregator-Cross Border (PA-CB) licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to a business release, Razorpay is now one of a small group of fintech companies that are allowed to process cross-border payments, both inbound and outward, under strict regulatory supervision.
According to the statement, Razorpay's new licence solidifies its status as one of India's most reliable and forward-thinking infrastructures for international money transfers, supporting a wide range of enterprises, including high-growth exporters, SaaS firms, freelancers, D2C brands, and international companies joining India's digital economy. The approval gives Razorpay, which already operates on a large scale and is trusted by top global players like Airbnb, Agoda, Klook, Shopify, and Hostinger, among others, "regulatory depth" to its stack.
According to Shashank Kumar, MD and cofounder of Razorpay, an increasing number of Indian companies are being created for international clients from the start, just as an increasing number of multinational corporations are selecting India as one of their key growth regions. Financial rails that make serving customers in Singapore or New York as simple as in Mumbai are what these companies need. In addition to being a payments company, Razorpay always views itself as a platform for business money mobility.
How Will Razorpay International Payments Work?
Razorpay International Payments is made to mimic the real flow of money in a global economy that prioritises digital technology. With optimised flows that yield 95% success rates on foreign transactions, Indian companies may take payments in more than 130 currencies using well-known methods, including cards, wallets, and local bank transfers.
Global platforms that offer UPI, RuPay, EMIs, net banking, and more than 100 local methods through a single integration with INR-native pricing, OTP-led checkout, and India-based support can go live in India in real time without the need to establish an India organisation. Kumar went on to say that Razorpay International Payments is simplifying cross-border payments and offering a single, reliable option for aspirational companies on both sides.
Additionally, obtaining the PA-CB licence demonstrates the company's strong emphasis on compliance, its alliances with banks and authorities, and its dedication to assisting Indian companies in confidently engaging in the global market.
Razorpay Aims to Capitalise on Cross-Border Payments Market
As per the statement of the firm, Razorpay wants to be the go-to operating system for international money transfers for Indian companies as cross-border digital commerce emerges as a key component of India's economic success. Razorpay is constructing the financial rails that will enable Indian innovation to reach clients worldwide by integrating payments, compliance, and infrastructure on a single platform. Razorpay was founded in 2014 and offers businesses technological payment solutions. IIT Roorkee alums Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur created it.
