Sterling Hospitals Organises Cancer Awareness Walkathon in Ahmedabad with Rotary Club

Sterling Hospitals, in partnership with the Rotary Club, recently organised a large-scale Cancer Awareness Walkathon in Ahmedabad to encourage early detection and promote awareness about timely cancer treatment. The initiative saw participation from nearly 500 people, including healthcare professionals, Rotary members, cancer survivors and residents who came together to spread the message that early diagnosis can significantly improve cancer outcomes.

The walkathon began from the Sindhubhavan Unit of Sterling Hospitals and was held between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. Participants walked through the surrounding area to raise awareness about cancer prevention, regular health screenings and recognising early symptoms.

Promoting Early Detection and Regular Health Check-ups

The primary aim of the event was to highlight the importance of early diagnosis and preventive healthcare. Medical experts at the event emphasised that delayed medical consultation often occurs due to fear or lack of awareness, which can worsen treatment outcomes.

Santosh Marathe, Managing Director and CEO of Sterling Hospitals, noted that modern oncology care has advanced significantly and many types of cancer can now be treated successfully if detected early.

He said that Sterling Hospitals provides comprehensive oncology services, including diagnosis, treatment, survivorship programmes and palliative care. According to him, initiatives like the walkathon help reinforce the message that timely screening and medical intervention can save lives.

Community Participation Reflects Rising Health Awareness

The strong turnout at the event highlighted growing public interest in preventive healthcare and awareness campaigns. Raman Bhaskar, Zonal Director for the Ahmedabad Unit at Sterling Hospitals, said the participation of around 500 citizens demonstrated increasing awareness among the community about cancer prevention and early detection.

He added that the hospital’s Sindhubhavan Unit has been dedicated to delivering comprehensive cancer care for several years, and community outreach initiatives like the walkathon help extend awareness beyond hospital settings.

Dr Prasad Muglikar, Group Medical Director at Sterling Hospitals Group, emphasised that cancer care today involves more than just treatment. He explained that awareness, prevention and early diagnosis are equally important components of effective cancer management.

Events such as the walkathon help bridge the gap between medical knowledge and public understanding, encouraging individuals to seek medical advice promptly and adopt healthier lifestyles.

Importance of Screening and Recognising Early Symptoms

Dr Pooja Nandwani Patel, Director of Radiation Oncology at Sterling Hospitals, explained that early detection plays a crucial role in improving survival rates and treatment outcomes. Identifying cancer at an early stage can often reduce the need for multiple treatments and help maintain a better quality of life after recovery.

Through such awareness initiatives, healthcare professionals aim to educate the public about the value of regular screenings and reassure patients that many cancers can now be effectively managed with modern treatment methods and multidisciplinary care.

Experts at the event also urged citizens not to ignore persistent symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, prolonged cough, unusual lumps, abnormal bleeding or ongoing discomfort. Regular health check-ups and timely medical consultation remain key to detecting cancer at its earliest stage.
