Uber Launches B2B Logistics on ONDC and Brings Metro Ticketing to Bengaluru
Uber has launched Uber Direct, a delivery service for businesses, in collaboration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), according to CNBC-TV18. According to the corporation, the platform will give companies on the ONDC access to Uber's distribution network.
It further stated that drivers are now delivering groceries for Zepto and KPN Farm Fresh in Bengaluru, where the service has gone live on the network. Uber Direct is the company's entry into business-to-business (B2B) logistics, according to Prabhjeet Singh, head of Uber India and South Asia, who was cited by Moneycontrol. It gives companies access to Uber's extensive logistical network and provides a plug-and-play solution. Uber will soon include additional restaurants, starting with groceries today. More places and form factors will be able to access this.
Operations of Uber Direct
According to the company, Uber Direct functions independently of its customer-focused service, Uber Courier. Customers submit orders directly through a seller's website or app under this approach, and Uber just manages delivery; the platform and the end user don't communicate until the driver arrives at their door. In India, Uber now employs 1.4 million drivers. Via its ONDC integration, the business also started selling metro tickets in Bengaluru. Earlier this year, similar programmes were introduced in Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai.
Uber India’s Future Plan
In order to better serve India's expanding transportation and logistics requirements, Uber intends to extend its metro ticketing integrations and Uber Direct to additional cities in 2026. Singh stated that the Uber shuttle is still in its infancy. Uber Shuttle is being discussed by the firm as an extra mobility option for Bengaluru. Many customers have liked it, and it is currently active in Delhi and Kolkata.
Uber will keep negotiating with stakeholders and the government to deliver it in the appropriate format and at the appropriate time. Uber Direct demonstrates the strength of interoperable commerce and will assist companies in gaining access to a standardised, scalable logistical backbone, according to Vibhor Jain, acting CEO and Chief Operating Officer of ONDC. BMRCL's managing director, Dr T Ravishankar, praised the integration, describing it as an improvement in first- and last-mile connection and a boost to seamless travel.
