CodeChef Will Be a Part Of Unacademy?
News 📰Unacademy is an Indian online education company which is based in Banglore. It was started originally as a Youtube channel in 2010 by Gaurav Munjal. Basically, it was founded by Roman Saini, Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh in 2015. Unacademy has a network of over 12,000 educators and also it offers preparation material for several professional and educational entrance exams. The lessons are in the form of free videos and also with the subscription.it also provides preparation study materials for students aspiring for civil services, bank jobs, and other competitive exams in India.
Recently, the founder of edtech startup unacademy Gaurav Munjal announced on twitter about the acquisition of online programming platform CodeChef.
CodeChef was started in 2009 by Bhavin Turakhia. Bhavin Turakhia is the founder and CEO of Flocx, Radix, and Zeta. CodeChef is a competitive programming website. It’s a non-profit educational initiative of Directi, whose aim was to provide a platform for students, software professionals to practice, to build their programming skills through online contests. Apart from this CodeChef also has a ‘CodeChef for schools’ program that aims to reach students and start a culture of programming in Indian schools.
Gaurav Munjal further announced that Bhavin Turakhia, the founder of CodeChef is a member of the unacademy group since 2017. He will be more involved in unacademy with this change in the custodianship of CodeChef. He also said that the mission of this website was to help indian programmers become better problem solvers. And under Directi's sponsership and Anup kalbalia and also his team have built a community of millions of developers globally.
CodeChef leader Anup Kalbalia will continue to lead the company.
As per Anup’s blog, Gaurav was a coder and a CodeChef user during his college days. He was also a part of the CodeChef team in 2013 before working on his own platform.
Anup wrote, "While Unacademy is the new custodian of Codechef, it will not change any of Codechef’s initiatives. All our existing programmes and contests will continue to remain exactly as they are, and will only grow better in our new home. This change in custodianship will mean that we have access to greater resources, teams, technology, platforms and capital."
Covid-19 crisis has put a lock on educational institutions, edtech companies have been witnessing adoption and usage. Due to this Unacademy has also gained due to the fear of the spread of the virus. The company has claimed an 82% growth in revenue in April as compared to other months.
Codechef is the second acquisition by Unacademy in 2020. In March it acquired kreatryx, which is an online platform for GATE and Engineering Services Exam(ESE).
