Alexander Caedmon Karp Success Story - Co-founder and CEO of Palantir Technologies

Alex Karp was born in New York City to African American artist Leah Jaynes Karp and Jewish clinical pediatrician Robert Karp. He graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia in 1985, just like his father.

Karp has stated that he has dyslexia, which made it hard for him to concentrate on books since he was young. Alex joined several protests and was highly influenced by the civil rights and social activism of his family.

Karp wanted to be a social theorist and earned his degree in philosophy from Haverford College in 1989. He then enrolled at Stanford Law School to get his Juris Doctor (JD) in 1992. It was at Stanford where Alex met Peter Thiel.

The two had a passion for political debates and were exasperated with the law school. After completing his studies, Alex went on to earn his PhD in neoclassical social theory from Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany in 2002.
