Adani Plans $100 Billion Bet on Renewable Energy-Backed AI Data Centres
A hundred billion dollars will be spent by the Adani Group to construct data centers in India that are AI-ready and powered by renewable energy by the year 2035. It is thus one of the biggest integrated energy-and-compute commitments in the world. The national data center capacity of the conglomerate will be increased to 5 gigawatts as a result of the 10-year initiative. Consequently, it built what it claimed to be the most integrated data centre platform in the world. Clean energy production, transmission, and hyperscale artificial intelligence processing will all be part of one cohesive system thanks to this endeavour.
An extra $150 billion is anticipated to be accelerated in the areas of server manufacturing, sophisticated electrical infrastructure, and sovereign cloud services, according to the group's statement. The result might be an ecosystem supporting artificial intelligence infrastructure worth $250 billion by the end of the next decade.
Data Centre A Brainchild of Gautam Adani
Chairman Gautam Adani justified the action by saying it was a strategic wager on technological independence. He claims that a new era of intelligence is about to begin, one that will be more revolutionary than the Industrial Revolution that came before it. The coming decade will be defined by the nations that achieve energy-computing symmetry. Plans to develop a gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence data centre campus in Visakhapatnam in collaboration with Google are part of the roadmap, which expands on AdaniConnex's current 2 GW data centre platform.
Microsoft has facilities in both Hyderabad and Pune, and further campuses are in the works in Noida. Along with building a second high-performance AI data centre, the team is deepening its partnership with Flipkart. The facilities will include superior liquid cooling systems and high-efficiency power systems, according to the business, making them ideal for high-density AI workloads.
To further the goals of data sovereignty, dedicated computing resources would be set aside for national data efforts and massive language models in India. The 30 GW Khavda project, which is part of Adani Green Energy's renewable portfolio—of which over 10 GW is operational—will serve as the backbone of the energy supply. The company has pledged $55 billion to increase its renewable power generation and install battery storage systems independently.
Blueprint of Adani AI Centre
To further develop local competence and decrease supply-chain risk, Adani intends to co-invest in domestic production of crucial components like grid systems, power electronics, and transformers. Building specialist AI infrastructure engineering programmes and research laboratories is another goal of the initiative's collaborations with educational institutions. By taking this step, the group are making it clear that they intend to fill the gap in expertise in energy management and high-performance computing.
As multinational IT firms scramble to guarantee a steady supply of processing power and energy, the magnitude of the commitment reflects the rising level of competition to strengthen national AI capabilities. How fast the project goes from ambitious to operational capability is dependent on execution, financing structure, and regulatory clearances.
The programme would establish India as a major participant in the world of artificial intelligence infrastructure if it were to be implemented according to plan. In a digital economy that is becoming more energy intensive, the country is integrating domestic computing capacity with renewable energy scale.
