Amazon Plans $3 Billion India Investment to Expand Quick Commerce by 2030

With $1 billion set to be invested by the end of 2027 and another $2 billion by 2030, Amazon intends to invest a total of $3 billion in its India fast commerce business. With this investment, Amazon Now will be able to continue its growth.

Neighbourhood warehouses, inventory management systems, demand forecasting tools, and product selection are now part of the expansion. As it grows its rapid commerce business, Amazon is anticipated to prioritise everyday necessities. At present, the firm operates over seven hundred and fifty micro- and urban fulfilment centres, and its Amazon Now reported annualised total sales for the company have surpassed USD 1 billion.

Performance of Amazon Now

Amazon Now was first introduced in Bengaluru in June 2025 and later extended to other regions of India. Quick commerce is a competitive space, therefore the company has been trying to increase its footprint in this segment. Amazon India announced a plan to spend INR 2,800 crore in April 2026 to improve its logistics network and speed up its rapid commerce operations. With Blinkit, Swiggy, Instamart, Zepto, and Flipkart Minutes all reportedly increasing their fulfilment networks, competition in India's rapid commerce industry is heating up.

Reuters estimated that the present worth of India's fast commerce sector is close to USD 19 billion. Another prediction from Datum Intelligence is that this segment will reach more than quadruple to USD 41 billion by 2030. Logistics, fulfilment infrastructure, and other areas of business are among those that Amazon has pledged to invest in across its operations in India.

Amazon Expands Varanasi Operations

According to a statement from Amazon, the business has opened its first fulfilment and sort centre in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, in the lead-up to the festive season. The sorting centre is 13,000 square feet in size, while the new fulfilment centre can hold one lakh cubic feet of storage, according to Amazon.

Faster deliveries to clients in Varanasi and the surrounding areas would result from the facilities, which will also generate hundreds of new jobs in the area. According to the company's statement from 22 September, logistics sector partner firms are in charge of operating the new facilities. The development, according to the business, has allowed Amazon to establish a network of 170 last-mile delivery stations, five sort centers, and two fulfilment centers in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

As part of its network growth across the country, which includes 150 last-mile delivery stations, 20 new fulfilment centers, and 6 sort centers, Amazon has announced that it will be expanding its operations to Varanasi. The extension has boosted the total storage capacity to 64 million cubic feet, a 50% increase. Further, its sorting space has reached three million square feet, a 25% increase, according to the business.
