The purchases of Simtheory, an agentic workplace, and Ortto, a data and marketing automation startup, have been confirmed by Canva. This is the latest chapter in Canva's laser-like concentration on enterprise workflows, as the two Australian digital startups will expand their toolkit.

The Canva team is thrilled to have Simtheory and Ortto on board, according to Cliff Obrecht, co-founder and COO of the company. Canva has transformed into a system where work occurs end-to-end, from a simple idea to a whole campaign, thanks to their great people and technology, Obrecht added. This acquisition is a significant step in Canva's evolution.

How the Acquisitions Benefit Canva?

What do the purchases mean for Canva? Obrecht explains. According to him, Simtheory helps Canva get from being an AI platform with design tools to becoming an AI platform with design and productivity tools central to its evolution. Thanks to Canva Grow, Ortto is better able to support every stage of the marketing and content lifecycle.

This includes brainstorming, design, publishing, and optimisation across all channels. Canva is excited to have Chris and Mike Sharkey on board as leaders of their artificial intelligence and marketing technology teams. The Sharkey brothers started two successful businesses. Neither deal's financial details have been disclosed.

Canva now has 265 million active users every month. By next weeks, users will be able to access additional features built on the knowledge passed down from both tech businesses. Next week at the company's Create keynote, they are anticipated to introduce some major new features. Earlier this year, Canva acquired MangoAI and Cavalry; now, they have added Simtheory and Ortto to their portfolio. In a battle with Adobe's and Apple's Creative Cloud and Creator Studio, this fortifies Canva's AI stack. Canva laid forth their plans for an improved AI stack, the Creative OS, at the end of last year.

Why Simtheory Deal Could be a Game-Changer for Canva?

With the Simtheory agreement in particular, Canva's impact is becoming more apparent. Teams should be able to construct AI agents educated on company data and troves of knowledge once the feature set is eventually integrated into the Canva suite.

In addition to facilitating the seamless transition across frontier models, it will also organise multi-step workflows. As Canva transitions from a design-centric platform with AI tools to an AI-led platform with a focus on design and productivity, this is anticipated to lay the groundwork for its next major expansion.
