The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned Jai Anmol Ambani, son of industrialist Anil Ambani, in connection with an alleged ₹228-crore bank fraud case linked to Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL).

Officials said Jai Anmol Ambani appeared before the agency in New Delhi after being summoned. Investigators questioned him for several hours. They examined financial transactions and company decisions from the period under investigation.

The questioning is part of an ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in bank loans given to the housing finance company.

What the ₹228 Crore Bank Fraud Case Is About

The case stems from a complaint filed by Union Bank of India, which alleged financial irregularities in loans extended to Reliance Home Finance.

Investigators suspect that funds borrowed from banks were not used for the purposes stated when the loans were sanctioned. Instead, authorities believe some of the funds may have been diverted through complex financial transactions.

A forensic audit reportedly flagged concerns over the use of these funds. After reviewing the findings, the lender classified the account as a fraud and approached the CBI to investigate the matter further.

The agency subsequently registered a case against several individuals linked to the company, including former executives and others associated with the financial dealings.

Investigation Timeline and Search Operations

The investigation has developed gradually over the past few months.

In December 2025, the CBI formally registered a case based on the bank’s complaint regarding the alleged ₹228-crore fraud. Following the registration of the case, investigators carried out search operations at multiple locations connected to the company and individuals named in the complaint.

During these searches, officials reportedly collected documents, digital records and other materials related to loan approvals, fund transfers and financial transactions.

As the probe progressed, investigators summoned Jai Anmol Ambani to clarify certain aspects related to the company’s financial decisions and management structure during the relevant period.

Current Status of the CBI Probe

Officials say the investigation is still ongoing and several financial records are being examined to understand how the funds were used and whether any criminal wrongdoing took place.

The agency is analysing bank documents, company records and transaction trails to determine the roles of individuals involved in the case.

So far, authorities have not announced any fresh charges beyond the ongoing investigation. The questioning of Jai Anmol Ambani forms part of the CBI’s effort to gather more information as it continues to examine the alleged banking irregularities.

Further developments are expected as investigators review evidence and complete the next stages of the probe.
