Domino’s Pizza Licences Suspended at 3 Mumbai Outlets Over Hygiene Concerns

On August 12, the FDA of Maharashtra announced that it has suspended the business licenses of four Domino's Pizza restaurants in the state, with three of those located in Mumbai. Multiple food safety and hygiene issues were discovered during inspections, leading to the action against the outlets managed by Jubiliant Foodworks.

A press notification from the FDA states that three locations in Mumbai, namely Vile Parle (West), Borivali (West), and R-City Mall, Ghatkopar (West), had their licenses terminated. Also, the Domino's Malkapur location in Karad, Satara, had its business permit revoked. According to the FDA, the measure was implemented during a targeted inspection campaign that took place from July 10th to August 11th, 2026.

FDA’s Findings During Inspections

During the inspections, it was discovered that the Domino's outlets had issues with food storage, cleanliness, pest management, and temperature monitoring. In addition, concerns with cleanliness and sanitation, as well as testing and documentation of food safety, were uncovered during the inspection. Inspectors found problems with the Vile Parle outlet's food storage and water supply, among other things.

On top of that, there was a lack of management in the areas of pest control and cleanliness, monitoring the temperature of frozen food, sanitation in food preparation areas, and hand-washing facilities. An adequate pest-control record system, a cleaning and sanitation schedule, and correct FIFO/FEFO procedures were all discovered to be absent from the R-City Mall outlet. In addition, there were problems with the store's hygiene records, information regarding food and water testing, and certification of materials that came into contact with food. Several violations, including infrastructure, equipment, cleanliness, and pest management, were also discovered at the Malkapur store in Satara.

Sapphire Foods India Also in FDA’s Scanner

A Sapphire Foods India Ltd. store in Karad, Satara, had its licence revoked by the food safety department as well. As a result, five big chain restaurant outlets are now facing the possibility of licence suspension as a result of the action. In India, the firm runs fast food restaurants like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC. The issue in the production of vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas was detected by the FDA at the Sapphire Foods location in Karad. Not having a dedicated oven and inadequate segregation measures were among these issues.

In addition, the store's pizza baking pans aren't properly separated, and there are gaps in the packaging information, such as the dates of packing and expiration, for the sauces and toppings. As part of a statewide effort to ensure the safety of food, the Domino's locations are being targeted. Regular inspections will be maintained, and companies found to be in violation of food safety and hygiene standards may face severe consequences, according to the regulator.
