Donald Trump Sued Over Truth Social Advance Access Sale to Investors
President Donald Trump has been sued over Truth Social’s controversial Truth API service, which gives paying customers early access to posts that could move markets. The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation filed the complaint in federal court in Manhattan.
On August 12, a news organisation and a non-profit filed suit against President Trump. The law suit was filed in an effort to halt a contentious new service that offers advance notices of his posts on Truth Social.
According to the complaint lodged in Manhattan's U.S. District Court, Trump's personal social media posts frequently influence the stock market. These announcements encompass significant sectors, including government policy, military actions, and other decisions.
What Lawsuit Against Trump Says?
The president is allegedly charging $100,000 monthly in advance for access to his official government announcements on his social media platform, Truth Social, according to the legal lawsuit. The lawsuit states that the plaintiffs are bringing this litigation to put an end to this unprecedented, corrupt, and unconstitutional plan. To let President Trump benefit from selling government secrets is to violate every reasonable expectation of public trust, not to mention any substantial interest in doing so.
Media outlet The Intercept and nonprofit Freedom of the Press Foundation both filed the lawsuit. According to the lawsuit, the new Truth API service gives subscribers priority access to Trump's public pronouncements for exorbitant amounts of money, which violates the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. Trump Media, the parent firm of Truth Social, stated in July that it would provide early access to "market-moving" messages from Trump and other platform users to members who paid up to $100,000 per month. Trump is the main shareholder in Trump Media, as indicated by the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust.
Trump Favouring the Big Players: Lawsuit
This scheme is profoundly corrupt, according to the lawsuit. Sharing "market-moving" official information with individuals who are ready and able to pay the president's personal business could lead to financial gains for the president. Trump allegedly published nine thousand to eleven thousand postings on Truth Social after returning to power in January 2025, according to the lawsuit. The White House does not always respond instantly to Trump's tweets.

Truth API delivers machine-readable feeds of publicly available Truth posts from the platform's top accounts in milliseconds, according to Trump Media CEO Kevin McGurn during a quarterly earnings conference call on 10 August.
Trump Media has signed over ten customer agreements for Truth API, with monthly payments ranging from sixty thousand to one hundred thousand dollars, according to McGurn, who mentioned this during the call. Defendants in the case include not only Trump but also White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, president's executive assistant Natalie Harp, and the Executive Office of the President, all of whom are known to have posted on Truth Social on behalf of the president.
