FSSAI Takes Action Against Two West Bengal Firms for Food Hygiene Violations
The FSSAI has suspended the licenses of Kailash Formulation and Sanecure Water Project based in West Bengal after inspections uncovered major food safety, hygiene and sanitation violations. Concerns raised over the Sanecure Water Project included bug infestations, poor sanitation and more.
Kailash Formulation and Sanecure Water Project are two West Bengal-based enterprises whose licenses have been suspended by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards were found to be violated during inspections, leading to the action being taken. The food regulator announced the move on social media on September 6, saying that it was made during enforcement activities in South 24 Parganas.

Findings of FSSAI’s Investigation
In a social media post, the FSSAI brought attention to the fact that Sanecure Water Project, a packaged drinking water company, had its licence stopped due to many infractions and serious regulatory violations. There were major red flags about food safety due to the presence of pests, insufficient pest-proofing, and poor sanitation and hygiene. Equipment and machinery were found to be unmaintained and to lack proper personal hygiene facilities, such as washrooms and areas to wash hands.
There has been an observation of equipment rusting or corroding. Documentation and compliance holes were identified, according to the report. These gaps included not having a pest-control agreement, records of food-handler inoculation and medical procedures, records of control samples, records of customer complaints and CAAPA, and checklists for vehicle hygiene. Test results for drinkable water, certificates of analysis for chemicals and raw materials, and documentation from certified vendors are not available.
It was also discovered that the water test lab record copy had been digitally modified or altered. Given the serious lack of compliance with the mandatory sanitation and hygiene standards, the FSSAI has decided to suspend the Sanecure Water Project's licence for all food-related business operations until further notice. This decision is being made in the interest of public health.
FSSAI Putting Strict Scanner FBOs
According to the report, Kailash Formulations has an issue with overall cleanliness and sanitation on the premises. Lab test reports that were needed were not available. The food safety regulator also found that there was a lack of conformity with the raw materials and packaging. This week, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced that CG Foods, maker of the Wai Wai brand, was subject to enforcement action due to significant food safety violations at its Ajmer, Rajasthan, manufacturing facility.
The food safety regulator has ordered CG Foods to stop making their Veg Bhujia Namkeen without the necessary paperwork and permits. Along with employing pre-dated packaging dates, it was discovered during an examination of the unit that the firm was reprocessing floor-collected broken noodles into bhujia products without heat treatment. In addition, the official noted that the site seized approximately 32,017.2 kg of stock, which included loose, broken noodles.
In addition, the FBO was subjected to stringent legal processes after 1,925 crates of finished goods that had expired were confiscated. According to the addition, the inspection also uncovered serious issues with hygiene and recordkeeping, as well as insufficient pest management. Once laboratory analysis of samples is complete, FSSAI will proceed with additional regulatory action.
