Google Brings New AI Certificate to Coursera With Free Pro Benefits
On Coursera, Google has introduced a new AI Professional Certificate. Its goal is to assist professionals in going beyond basic AI knowledge and safely utilising AI tools in their daily jobs. Google AI Pro will be provided to enrolled learners at no cost for three months. This allows for practical experience with more complex models like AI Studio, NotebookLM, and Gemini.
The programme's release coincides with the general trend toward AI proficiency as a standard expectation in many sectors. With only 1.2 million qualified individuals, there would be a predicted shortfall of over one million jobs in artificial intelligence (AI) in India by 2027, according to Bain & Company.
Specifics of Google’s New Programme
A capstone project and seven shorter classes make up the certificate programme, which takes around 10 hours to finish. Students will obtain hands-on experience using artificial intelligence (AI) in a variety of contexts, including automating workflows, research, planning, communication, content production, and data analysis.
In order to create a curriculum that focuses on universal, transferable skills, Google collaborated with companies and analysed hundreds of job descriptions. Participants will be able to demonstrate their competence in the responsible and effective use of AI tools in their portfolio upon completion.
Grow with Google Founder Lisa Gevelber stated that the Google AI Professional Certificate makes the economic potential of AI accessible to all businesses and workers. The availability of appropriate training is crucial for individuals to thrive in an AI-driven economy, according to Coursera CEO Greg Hart. With Google's new certificate, students may learn to confidently apply AI in their daily jobs.
Coursera now offers the Google AI Professional Certificate to students all across the globe. Students will be prepared for a work market driven by artificial intelligence (AI) by acquiring both theoretical understanding and practical experience.
AI Impacting Jobs in Tech Sector
It is important to note that corporations have been laying off employees as a result of the quick development and use of AI. Numerous businesses, ranging from big giants like Amazon, TCS, and Microsoft to startups like Cleartax, have reduced employment as a result of increased automation brought on by AI. Even while AI is predicted to boost production and efficiency, one of the main worries worldwide has been how it will affect jobs.
AI has the potential to significantly increase economic growth and productivity, according to the Economic Survey 2025–2026. It does, however, present a significant risk of workforce displacement, especially in India's service-orientated BPO and IT industries. Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, who recently attended the "India AI Impact Summit 2026" in India, stated that there is an increasing trend of attributing job losses to AI. He acknowledged that jobs are being replaced by AI but claimed that many businesses are using it as a cover for regular cost-cutting.
