Haldiram’s UK Debut Hits Pause as London Outlet Temporarily Closes

The Leicester Square location of Haldiram's UK has been temporarily closed, just weeks after its highly publicised launch in London, which attracted enormous crowds. The official Instagram account for the brand, @haldiramsuk.restaurants, has confirmed the closure in an updated bio.

With the message "We'll be back soon," the bio mentioned that the outlet has been closed since July 21, 2026, because of UKPN electrical works. "Notice of temporary closure" was stated in the notice that has been put on the closed shutters of the outlet.

"Please note that we are temporarily closed due to scheduled UKPN electrical and gas upgrade works. We will announce our reopening date as soon as possible and look forward to welcoming you back when we resume normal operations. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during these essential maintenance works. Keep an eye out on our socials for more updates," stated the notice.

Reason for Shut Down of Haldiram's UK

The company responsible for distributing power in the southeast and around London is known as UK Power Networks, or UKPN. Therefore, it seems like this is more of a planned infrastructure project than a problem with the eatery. Only a short time has passed since Haldiram's first UK restaurant opened its doors at 19-20 Irving Street, Leicester Square. This new otlet is a 3,000-square-foot space with 120 indoor seats and 20 outdoor seats.

With the debut, Haldiram moved away from its typical quick-service model and toward a more upscale, informal eating experience. The cuisine for the UK location included chole bhature, pav bhaji, raj kachori, and a wide variety of chaat dishes. The London location also featured its own unique fusion sweets. Visitors may also find Haldiram's packaged sweets and snacks in the restaurant's specialised shop section. Long lines formed outside the venue for the opening, which became an internet sensation among Indians in London. There is currently no announced reopening date.

After starting off as a little namkeen and sweets store in Bikaner in 1937, Haldiram's has reached a major milestone with the opening of its London restaurant. Now, the name is known in dozens of countries throughout the world as a leading food brand. In order to reach a wider audience around the world and expand its business beyond packaged foods, the UK launch was viewed as a smart step.

Customers who had just learnt about the store may be disappointed by the temporary closure, but they are still looking forward to its reopening.
