On November 15, 2025, IndiGo and Akasa Air announced that they would begin flights on December 25 from the recently built Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). On December 25, Akasa Air will launch its first trip between Delhi and NMIA, establishing direct connections with four Indian cities. In the days that follow, the airline will also provide flights to Goa, Kochi, and Ahmedabad. According to the airline, it will gradually expand its operations from the second airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, eventually reaching 300 weekly domestic and 50 weekly foreign departures.

IndiGo and Akasa Both Building Strong Network at NMIA

By the end of FY2027, Akasa plans to ramp up to 10 parking bases as part of its larger network strategy, with a targeted international growth into important Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets. According to Praveen Iyer, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Akasa Air, NMIA enhances the airline's strategic position in western India and the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, enabling it to maximise capacity deployment and seize fresh demand pools.

IndiGo will begin operating domestic flights to ten cities from the airport. Additionally, IndiGo stated that it intends to gradually grow its operations by providing direct flights to additional locations in due time, starting with the second airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The future-ready airport will be connected to eleven Indian cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa (Mopa), Jaipur, Nagpur, Cochin, and Mangalore, beginning December 25, according to IndiGo. IndiGo, based in Gurugram, offers more than 2,300 daily flights to more than 130 locations, including 90 airports within the country.

According to the aircraft fleet tracking website Planespotter.net, as of November 14, the airline had 409 aircraft, 362 of which were in operation and 47 of which were on the ground.

About NMIA

On October 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated phase one of the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The airport is built at a cost of INR 19,650 crore. Spread across 1,160 hectares, the airport will have one terminal and one runway in the first phase with an annual passenger handling capacity of 20 million. Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is designed to complement the existing Mumbai International Airport and cater to the growing demand for air travel from India’s financial capital, IndiGo said. Strategically located, NMIA is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity and supporting economic development in western India.
