Jio Platforms Secures Spot in WIPO’s Top 20 Global Patent Rankings
According to the most recent Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) rankings, Reliance Industries' technology subsidiary Jio Platforms has broken into the top 20 worldwide. The listing was recently made public by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). For the year 2025, Jio Platforms (JPL) jumped 320 spots.
Consequently, it has become one of the world's most rapidly expanding innovators. Additionally, Jio Platforms joined the ranks of other world-renowned tech companies like Huawei, Qualcomm, LG, Panasonic, Nokia, Google, Apple, and Microsoft, according to the rankings. This makes JPL the first Indian tech company to ever make it into the prestigious Global Top-20 list.
How the Jio Made to the Ranking?
As stated by Jio in the press release, the analysis uses publicly available data to rank the top PCT applicants. 5G, 5G advanced, 6G, AI, cloud-native platforms, intelligent automation, radio access, core network software, edge intelligence, fixed wireless access, network slicing, and digital services infrastructure are all heavily represented in Jio's patent portfolio.
The promotion of JPL to the top 20 worldwide in the WIPO PCT rankings is a culmination of years of work towards becoming a deep-tech firm, according to Akash Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms. He went on to say that this shows how quickly Jio is innovating across a variety of cutting-edge technologies and that this trend will only accelerate in the years to come. Jio would like to credit this milestone to the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who envisions India becoming a global leader in technology creation, ownership, and export, he added.
