Kuku Technologies Announces 1,000-Hire Plan to Scale AI Content Production
Kuku Technologies will hire 1,000 personnel to build its AI-powered content creation unit by the end of the financial year. The startup plans to leverage its AI Storytelling Stack to speed up micro-drama creation, reduce expenses by 30-50% and ramp up output for Indian and global markets.
The mobile-first entertainment business Kuku Technologies, which runs Kuku TV and Kuku FM, is planning to double the size of its new AI-native production unit by 1,000 employees by the end of the current fiscal year. The main objective of this hiring is to expedite the production of content at a fraction of the standard cost.
The company, which is at the forefront of the micro-dramas (serialised short-form video) trend, has recruited around 200 individuals for the Mumbai division so far. The new recruits bring a unique blend of creative, technical, and AI-first expertise, which will drastically reduce production time and costs.
Kuku Technologies Enhancing its AI Domain
According to those keeping tabs on Kuku's AI initiatives, the firm has been secretly developing an AI Storytelling Stack, The company is also using knowledge gained from thousands of pieces of content, billions of data points on user consumption, and years of operational expertise. Kuku is constructing an integrated stack that spans several sections of the storytelling and production pipeline, instead than developing discrete AI technologies. In the long run, Kuku anticipates that its AI bet will generate 80–90% of its revenue.
The company has set a six-month goal of reaching 100 million people and increasing production to over 2,000 shows for the Indian and international markets. Writers from AI-native units work on story and language, while filmmakers from AI-native institutes like FTII shape the visual direction. Lastly, it will also employ engineers from IITs and NITs who are responsible for developing the mechanisms that ensure story continuity in long-running shows.
Kuku Aims to Cut Costs with AI Infusion
According to Kuku, the new AI unit will reduce the production expenses of micro-drama material by 30-50% compared to similar expenditures in China. China exports more micro-dramas than any other country in the world and has the biggest market for them. Kuku has previously portrayed AI storytelling as a natural progression from India's strength in software services into the entertainment industry.
Additionally, India's advantage in satisfying the increasing worldwide demand for customised, high-volume video could be attributed to its large pool of English-speaking talent, which is affordable. In contrast to Kuku's ability to create micro-drama content for around $100/minute, the going rate in China is more than $150/minute. Producing a film of the same quality in other markets can cost 1.5 to 3 times as much due to increased computational and human resource costs. According to the experts, there are two sources of savings: Fewer workers and significantly less time are required for AI production compared to a conventional shot.
On top of that, compared to rival systems, Kuku's needs many fewer iterations of content regeneration. Consequently, reducing one of the most massive expense lines in AI-assisted video. Consequently, one can get a daily output of about 20 minutes of finished, useable video, as opposed to the about one minute of acceptable footage achieved in conventional production methods.
