L&T, Nvidia Plan Massive Gigawatt AI Data Centre Expansion Across India
On February 18th, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced its intention to form a joint venture with Nvidia, a chipmaking giant. This JV will be formed to construct a sovereign AI manufacturing infrastructure in India on a gigawatt scale. Day three of the AI Impact Summit was when the announcement was made. The business stated in a filing with the stock exchange that the joint will build data center infrastructure that is AI-ready.
Furthermore, it will construct state-of-the-art computing infrastructure to handle massive workloads in industries including healthcare, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, finance, and public administration. L&T and Nvidia have announced their agreement in a BSE filing. The partnership will bring together L&T's engineering and infrastructure expertise with Nvidia's AI stack, which includes GPUs, CPUs, networking, accelerated storage systems, the Nvidia AI Enterprise software stack, and reference designs.
Specifics of L&T and Nvidia Deal
L&T will build an AI data centre facility on a gigawatt scale as part of the agreement. A data centre in Mumbai with a capacity of 40 MW and another data centre in Chennai with a capacity of 30 MW will both see Nvidia GPU cluster deployments scaled up. The initiative, according to the business, will establish a sovereign AI infrastructure, allowing for the development and deployment of crucial data, models, and workloads within India.
Indian businesses are prepared to go from AI pilots to production-scale deployment, according to L&T chairman and managing director SN Subrahmanyan. The investment lays the groundwork for powering industry, energy, financial services, healthcare, and public services with secure, scalable, and sovereign infrastructure. Together, Nvidia's platforms and L&T's execution power are laying the groundwork for artificial intelligence to have a quantifiable effect on the economy.
Nvidia Expanding it India’s Network
An additional investment in artificial intelligence in India is being considered by Nvidia. The semiconductor manufacturer had earlier today announced a $1 billion investment to build one of the biggest DGX Cloud clusters in the Asia Pacific region inside Yotta's HGX B300 Blackwell Ultra supercluster. Nvidia co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang has stated that artificial intelligence is causing the greatest infrastructure buildout in human history, one that will affect every industry and nation.
Huang added that in an audacious plan, India's prime minister, Narendra Modi, wants to make his country a centre for digital infrastructure and make artificial intelligence accessible to people in the global south. In a joint effort with L&T, an 88-year-old engineering and nation-building giant, Nvidia is constructing a first-rate AI network that will fuel India's economic development and bring the country's AI goals to fruition.
