LPG Supply Crunch Impacts Catering Services at Infosys Campuses
In response to the recent tightening of government regulations on the use of LPG in various industries, the IT services giant Infosys has sent an advisory to all of its employees at its Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai campuses. Corporate campuses in India are starting to feel the effects of the lingering geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
This has led to restrictions on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies. As a result, firms are implementing contingency plans for their food services. Food court operations will be reconfigured starting March 12, according to an internal corporate document seen by media outlets. The removal of live counter options is one example of the restricted offerings.
Infosys Lays Down New Temporary Measures
A number of short-term actions have been implemented by the organisation to control the disturbance. Employees at the Pune campus were informed in an advisory that campus food courts will have limited menus. The vendors' central kitchens will provide some of the cooked meals. Electrical appliances and biofuel, two other forms of alternate cooking setups, will see increased usage. Right now, the LPG supplies that the food court sellers get from their suppliers are cut down.
The limited availability of LPG is limiting their ability to operate at full capacity, despite their sincere efforts to continue operations. Similarly, Infosys has asked its workers to work together during the supply crunch. Staff members are encouraged to bring meals from home whenever possible and to refrain from planning on-campus activities that call for catering in order to alleviate the strain on campus food services.
Infosys Switching to Biogas
There are only a few organisations like Infosys that have biogas plants on campus. The company claims in its FY25 ESG report that it has installed biogas plants and organic waste converters to treat all of the organic waste (including food and garden waste) produced on campus.
It was not possible to determine what percentage of the company's fuel needs are now supplied by biogases. Commercial LPG availability for industries including hospitality, corporate catering, and institutional kitchens across the nation has started to be affected by supply limits caused by the West Asia crisis. This circumstance exemplifies the widespread impact of these constraints.
