Meta Platforms to Shut Down Messenger.com in April 2026

In April 2026, Meta will terminate Messenger.com. As a result, Facebook is bringing back browser-based texting and dismantling Messenger's standalone web presence. Alerts that appear in the Messenger app and on the website are already informing users. Meta has announced that as of April 2026, messenger.com will be permanently disabled. In its place, the business said, users can carry on discussions at facebook.com/messages.

Visitors to Messenger.com will be automatically redirected to Facebook's messaging interface once the change takes effect. Meta pointed out that folks who use Messenger but don't have a Facebook account can still access chats using the mobile app.

This comes after Meta decided last year to stop supporting its own desktop software for Messenger on Windows and Mac.
