ReNew Announces INR 60,000 Crore Investment in Andhra Pradesh’s Green Energy Sector
Leading decarbonisation solutions provider ReNew Energy Global Plc (ReNew) said on 13 November that it will invest INR 60,000 crore ($6.7 billion) in Andhra Pradesh to establish several green energy projects in the state, bringing its total new investment in the state to INR 82,000 crore ($9.3 billion). In May 2025, the business promised the state INR 22,000 crore ($2.5 billion) to establish one of the biggest hybrid renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh.
The company announced plans to invest in the establishment of a 6 GW PV ingot-wafer plant, a 2 GW pumped hydro project, a 300 KTPA green ammonia facility, and 5 GW of hybrid projects, including wind-solar and solar-BESS initiatives, in the state in four separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed on November 13 with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board in front of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh, minister for information technology, electronics and communications, real-time governance, and human resources development.
ReNew Expanding its Reach in India
ReNew announced in May 2025 that it would invest INR 22,000 crore ($2.5 billion) to establish one of the biggest hybrid renewable energy projects in India in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. This would be one of the biggest renewable energy projects in India at one place, with a 2.8 GW generation capacity that includes 1.8 GWp solar and 1 GW wind, as well as a 2 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). ReNew now operates 60 MW of solar power and 717 MW of wind power across ten locations in Andhra Pradesh.
With the most recent announcement, the company, which is committed to fostering clean energy-led growth in the state, will create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs while collaborating with the Andhra Pradesh government to meet the state's goal of producing 78.5 GW of solar power, 35 GW of wind power, and 25 GWh of battery energy storage.
ReNew has a long history in Andhra Pradesh, and with this expansion, it is bringing a fully integrated clean energy value chain to the state, from wafer to large-scale renewable projects and storage deployment, according to Sumant Sinha, the company's founder, chairman, and chief executive officer. This development would improve India's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision, build high-quality skilled jobs, and fortify domestic supply chains. The government of Andhra Pradesh is a natural partner in speeding up India's energy transition and sustainable economic growth, and the company values its leadership and clear policy direction.
AP Becoming a Hub of Renewable Energy Sector
The AP state seized a sizeable portion of the nation's investments in renewable energy last year thanks to the Naidu government's alluring Integrated Clean Energy Policy, which was introduced in October 2024 and expedited clearances and set up new SOPs. Other significant committed investments in renewables besides Brookfield include SAEL Industries (INR 6,000 crore), Vedanta's Serentica (INR 50,000 crore), NTPC Green (INR 2.08 trillion), and Tata Power (INR 6,000 crore).
As of Nov. 10, 2025, ReNew has one of the largest clean energy portfolios in the world, with 18.5 GW on a gross basis. The company is a significant independent power producer in India and offers comprehensive solutions in the fields of clean energy, value-added energy products through digitalisation, storage, and carbon markets—all of which are essential to combating climate change—in a fair and inclusive way.
