Swiggy Expands Quick Commerce with HPCL Doorstep LPG Cylinder Delivery Service
Swiggy has signed a deal with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) for a trial to deliver LPG cylinders to customers' doorsteps via Swiggy Instamart in Bengaluru, which is being called a first of its type in India's quick-commerce space.
On July 15, Swiggy and the state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) began a pilot programme in Bengaluru to bring cooking gas cylinders directly to customers' doorsteps—the first of its kind in India. Customers will be able to purchase 5-kg and 10-kg LPG cylinders through Swiggy Instamart thanks to the agreement.
Consequently, adding cooking fuel to the platform's services, in addition to groceries and domestic basics. This launch highlights the need for more resilient last-mile distribution channels, as concerns about cooking gas supplies appeared months ago during the Iran crisis.
How Customers can Enroll for LPG Deliveries?
Customers can buy the cylinders without an existing HP Gas connection, unlike with standard household LPG connections. However, as part of the delivery procedure, first-time buyers will be asked to complete an identity verification form. Prices were not made public by the businesses. At first, the service will only provide 5-kg metal and 10-kg composite cylinders, not the usual 14.2-kg home LPG cylinders that most houses use.
The city of Bengaluru will be the test site for its eventual rollout to other places. The Swiggy Instamart app allows customers to place orders. When consumers place their first order, it will be considered a fresh cylinder purchase. On subsequent transactions, consumers can exchange the empty HPCL cylinder for a refill. The last mile delivery will be handled by skilled persons in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements, and deliveries will be carried out through HPCL's licensed distributor network.
Amit Garg, director of marketing at HPCL, stated that the company's dedication to offering new solutions to satisfy customers' increasing needs is unwavering. With the Instamart platform, HPCL can connect with customers in a quick, easy, and tech-savvy way. This means that HP Navya Composite LPG Cylinders will be more widely available.
Swiggy Moving Ahead In Race with LPG Move
The collaboration gives Swiggy access to a wider variety of products on Instamart. Through its quick-commerce portal, the company already sells groceries, fresh fruit, snacks, gadgets, and household goods. Platforms in India's quick-commerce sector are constantly diversifying their product offerings beyond food and groceries to boost order values and draw in more customers, and this move is a reflection of that trend.
Before rolling out the service to other locations in the nation, the corporations would utilise the Bengaluru pilot to gauge customer feedback. There was no mention of when the wider rollout would be happening. When it comes to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), India ranks second in the world. The three state-run oil marketing organisations that mainly supply the cooking fuel are Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
