Titan Capital Backs xStep, the Shark Tank India-Featured Neurotech Startup
Funding will scale xStep’s non-invasive neurorehabilitation platform for people with cerebral palsy, stroke, spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis across India and beyond.
xStep, the neurotechnology company that featured on Shark Tank India, today announced it has raised funding from Titan Capital to expand its non-invasive neurorehabilitation platform for people living with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, stroke, spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis. The investment marks xStep’s entry into the Titan Capital portfolio. The investment amount remains undisclosed.
Founded by neuroscientist and biomedical engineer Dr. Parag Gad, xStep is built on nearly two decades of research in spinal neuromodulation carried out at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The company turns that research into rehabilitation technologies that clinics can use to help improve movement, strength, balance, sensation and functional recovery in people with neurological conditions. With the expansion of xStep’s non-invasive spinal neuromodulation platform, the company is helping India take an important step toward becoming a global hub for advanced neurorehabilitation.
Neurological disorders are among the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide, yet access to advanced rehabilitation remains limited, especially in emerging markets. xStep is set on changing that by making its technology more affordable and easier to reach for patients and healthcare providers.
Developed by SpineX Inc. (USA) and manufactured by VIVATRONIX Tech Pvt. Ltd. (India), xStep combines non-invasive spinal neuromodulation with structured rehabilitation. Unlike invasive approaches that require surgery, the technology delivers targeted electrical stimulation through electrodes placed on the skin over specific regions of the spinal cord, with therapy personalised to each patient’s condition, functional goals and response to rehabilitation.
The funding will support commercial expansion across India, manufacturing scale-up, clinical evidence generation and regulatory work in both domestic and international markets. As part of its next phase, xStep has launched xStep One, an integrated neurorehabilitation experience centre in Bengaluru. Through a collaboration with Trexo Robotics, it has also brought Trexo’s wearable robotic gait trainer for children to India, making it one of the first centres in the country to offer both xStep spinal neuromodulation and Trexo robotic gait training within a single integrated rehabilitation programme.
Over the past year, xStep has grown from a research-focused company into a commercial one, building working relationships with clinicians, hospitals, researchers and rehabilitation centres in India and abroad.

xStep’s story traces back nearly two decades, to research led by Dr. Gad at UCLA, where he worked alongside internationally recognised researchers studying how targeted electrical stimulation of the spinal cord could help restore movement after neurological injury and disease. Seeing that many of these technologies were expensive, invasive or stuck in research settings, he returned to India to build xStep and make this kind of rehabilitation more affordable and easier to access.
Today, the company’s philosophy — Rewire. Retrain. Restore. — sums up how it works: activating neural pathways, pairing neuromodulation with intensive rehabilitation, and helping people regain function, independence and quality of life.
To date, more than 1,000 individuals have been treated or supported through xStep technology and associated clinical programmes. The company is also running more than 25 clinical studies, investigator collaborations and real-world evidence programmes in people living with spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and autonomic dysfunction across 20 countries. This work is building the evidence behind xStep’s technology and should help support wider clinical use and future regulatory approvals across more markets.

Over the next 12–24 months, xStep plans to build up its manufacturing, expand clinical collaborations in India and abroad, add to the evidence across neurological disorders, and keep developing technologies that connect neuroscience research with day-to-day patient care. It also plans to work more closely with clinicians, hospitals and rehabilitation centres so that this kind of care reaches more patients.
