VinFast Expands India Presence With Plans for 50 E-Motorcycle Showrooms
Vietnamese electric vehicle company VinFast will set up over 50 electric motorcycle dealerships in 34 Indian cities across 15 states and territories by partnering with local dealers. The extension will also have charging infrastructure and better after-sales services to assist the clients.
More than fifty Indian dealers have signed letters of intent (LoIs) with VinFast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer planning to join the domestic electric two-wheeler (E2W) market. The EV manufacturer announced that the agreements will allow them to open more than fifty electric motorcycle dealerships in thirty-four cities spanning fifteen states and the District of Columbia.
Numerous states, including Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, will host these showrooms. The EV powerhouse announced the deals in a statement, claiming they will help them increase their footprint in the Indian E2W market and broaden their distribution network. At VinFast's production site in Hai Phong, Vietnam, the LoIs were inked.
VinFast Also Infusing Charging Infra to Back India Expansion
The business intends to improve after-sale services and provide charging infrastructure in the additional cities as part of its local drive. According to Anurag Saxena, the CEO of VinFast's e-scooter division in India, the company has partnered with over 50 dealer partners in fifteen states and territories and thirty-four cities, marking the start of its journey to distribute VinFast e-motorcycles throughout the country.
In addition, Saxena mentioned that the company is bolstering its after-sales services and constructing charging infrastructure to guarantee that clients in these areas receive the necessary support during their ownership journey. The Indian government is driving the E2W area to a boom, and VinFast is jumping on the bandwagon with this. Increasing gasoline costs, electric vehicle mandates, a developing charging infrastructure, fast adoption by gig platforms, and fresh launches by domestic manufacturers all provide additional support to the E2W sector.
Severe Competition Growing in India’s E2W Sector
Current market leaders in the E2W segment include long-standing companies like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor. The sector has also seen the emergence of publicly traded domestic new-age mobility companies like Ola Electric and Ather. While VinFast's competitors target escooters, they say they're keeping an eye on the electric motorbike industry in India. Even in this market, the corporation will face competition from domestic heavyweights like Ultraviolette, Oben Electric, and MATTER. It has been about a year since VinFast initially announced its plans to join the Indian E2W market in 2026.
The business had previously announced plans to spend $2 billion in India in order to increase yearly output from 50,000 to 1.5 lakh units. Nonetheless, a lot has transpired subsequent to it. It was also reported last month that the Vietnamese EV manufacturer was in talks with local suppliers to create two new models specifically for the Indian market. Still, the percentage of India's two-wheeler sales that come from electric vehicles is growing. September saw a 12.2% MoM increase in E2W registrations compared to August, reaching 2.07 Lakh units from 1.84 Lakh units.
