Wheels India announced on 15 December that it and Japan's Topy Industries have inked a technical assistance agreement for the design, development, and production of aluminium alloy wheels. According to a statement from the company, Topy will contribute engineering support and technical expertise to improve Wheels India's design and manufacturing capabilities for the cast aluminium wheel sector.

According to Srivats Ram, Managing Director of Wheels India, this deal is anticipated to provide Wheels India with significant technical know-how in the aluminium wheel market. The brand is certain that this deal would strengthen its competitive edge in the cast aluminium market and help the company acquire new clients.

Wheels India Exploring Opportunities with Japanese OEMs

Topy Industries is a well-known wheel manufacturer that has been around for more than a century. He pointed out that they are a top producer of aluminium wheels with innovative technologies. Srivats added that Wheels India hopes to gain new traction in the alloy wheel market with Japanese OEMs in India through this agreement.

According to the corporation, Hyundai and Volkswagen have placed new orders for its aluminium wheel division, and it anticipates starting deliveries the next year.

Wheels India Enhancing its Capacity

According to Wheels India, the company is currently working to increase the yearly capacity of its alloy wheel manufacturing in Thervoi Kandigai, Tamil Nadu, from the current 500,000 wheels to 700,000 wheels. It stated that this capacity expansion is anticipated to be finished by the end of the upcoming quarter.

Additionally, the company plans to increase its capacity to 10 lakh wheels annually, which is anticipated to be finished by the end of FY27, thanks to the possibilities in the aluminium wheels market. With a 74% equity stake in WIL Car Wheels Ltd., Wheels India and Topy already have a joint venture for the steel wheel industry. Steel wheels for Japanese OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in India are the main emphasis of this joint venture.
