Wipro and Microsoft ink three-year deal to build industry-focused AI tools

On December 12, IT services firm Wipro said that it has reached a three-year agreement with tech powerhouse Microsoft to create industry-specific AI solutions for businesses and hasten the adoption of AI. According to a statement from the firm, the collaboration would integrate Microsoft technologies like Azure, Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and Azure AI Foundry with Wipro's engineering and consulting skills.

The proposal calls for both companies to provide solutions for industries such as manufacturing, financial services, retail, healthcare and life sciences, and airports. According to the release, they will also use NetOxygen, Wealth AI, and Falcon Supply Chain, three of Wipro's industry platforms, to promote advances in particular sectors.

Wipro to Integrate More AI int its Business

The Bengaluru-based IT company also announced that it will use its Wipro Intelligence suite to expedite the integration of AI throughout its business, especially in its Client Zero initiatives. According to Wipro's president of technology services, Nagendra Bandaru, AI is now the engine behind every opportunity we seize, and this collaboration will improve our workflow and provide value to our clients.

The news was made the day after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed an agreement to deploy more than 50,000 Copilot licences, Microsoft's AI assistant, with Wipro, Cognisant, Infosys, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The agreement is a component of Microsoft's larger strategy to increase its AI footprint in India, which will be powered by a $17.5 billion plan to construct cloud and AI infrastructure in the nation that was just disclosed.

Nadella Announces $17.5 Billion Investment to Scale AI in India

The Indian tech industry is receiving billions of dollars. Microsoft has announced a new $17.5 billion (approximately INR 1.6 lakh crore) investment in India, weeks after Google announced a $15 billion AI hub and data centre plan. In a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 December, global CEO Satya Nadella outlined the company's intention to expand skilling and ongoing operations in addition to augmenting cloud and AI infrastructure in the country.

This statement highlights the significance of India in Microsoft's worldwide strategy and is the company's largest-ever investment in Asia. The business has committed to investing $20.5 billion (more than INR 1.8 lakh crore) in India over the next four years, adding to the $3 billion declared at the beginning of the year.
