Zepto meat business CEO Chandan Rungta resigns from his role

According to Moneycontrol, Chandan Rungta, the CEO of Zepto's meat business, a quick commerce major, resigned less than a year into his position. Rungta, who started working for the company in December, resigned, Zepto said. Zepto's meat company has grown over the last few weeks in order to keep up its growth rate.

To expand its meat business, the fast delivery firm first depended heavily on its private label, Relish. To maintain the growth pace, it did, however, reintroduce the popular meat brand Licious into its lineup. According to the article, Zepto received comments indicating that mass premium consumers preferred Zepto's own brand, Relish, while premium consumers preferred the Licious brand. In order to serve both user groups, the business was forced to relist Licious and provide Relish.

Zepto Facing Difficulties in Retaining Employees

In recent months, Zepto has had a number of employee resignations. According to sources, Chandresh Dedhia, the vice president and head of information technology, resigned less than a year after joining in December 2024. Various media articles reported that Apoorv Pandey, senior vice president of strategy at Zepto, who had joined from competitor Eternal (previously Zomato), has left the company.

Shortly after CXO-Zepto Cafe Shashank Shekhar Sharma resigned, Pandey left. Sharma, who had previously worked at Chai Point, was instrumental in helping Pandey and Zepto Cafe grow. Sharma was an early employee who worked with Zepto for more than three years before leaving in October, whereas Pandey started in September 2024. According to sources, Yash Heda, senior director at Zepto, is currently collaborating with Vinay Dhanani, president, to spearhead the vertical on Zepto Cafe.

Mid-Level Employees Also Bidding Adios to Zepto

There are other early employees who have lately left Zepto besides Sharma. Other early hires, who were mostly in mid-management positions, some of whom were below the vice president (VP), have also left Zepto. According to various reports, senior director Anant Rastogi, business head Suraj Sipani, director of strategy Vijay Bandhiya, and chief expansion officer Roshan Shaikh have all left the fast commerce company in recent months.

Bandhiya joined Zepto in 2022, just as the company was beginning operations and growing from a small quick commerce operator to the big three rapid delivery companies, whereas Rastogi, Shaikh, and Sipani each worked there for more than four years. Their ESOP vesting cycle aligned with their exits as well.
