Zepto tests Super Mall for premium orders and introduces diagnostics service

Zepto, a rapid commerce (qcom) platform, has begun trial testing two additional products in an effort to diversify its offerings and break into new markets. It is now trialling Super Mall, a new vertical for high-value and luxury products, and Zepto Diagnostics, an in-app diagnostics solution within its pharma sector. The corporation wants to measure client stickiness and the acceptance of these services through these pilots before introducing them fully. At the moment, just a few cities and clients can access them.

Zepto Aims Capitalize Premium Market Category

According to multiple media reports, the QCOM company wants to use the Super Mall vertical to reach higher-margin markets in the face of growing competition, while simultaneously trying to draw in new clients and keep hold of its current clientele. Non-grocery products, including fashion, technology, and home décor, are included in the vertical.

Super Mall expands on the company's efforts to encourage shoppers to put more items in their carts. For example, Zepto is presently offering discounts of INR 50 on orders above INR 1,099, INR 150 off orders over INR 2,299, and INR 200 off orders over INR 2,899. Additionally, customers can access reduced prices on orders over INR 399 with Swiggy's Maxxsaver function.

Zepto Diagnostics Another Extended Arm of the Brand

Zepto Diagnostics is a product that falls within the Zepto Pharmacy category. The QCOM platform has teamed up with diagnostics service provider Orange Health Labs to do this. In this category, consumers can do a blood test at home in 60 minutes, and the results will be sent in six hours. Among the tests are thyroid function tests (TFT), complete blood counts (CBC), and full-body examinations.

Zepto Drops Handling and Surge Fees

Earlier this month, weeks after concluding a $450 million investment round, the quick commerce platform Zepto has lowered the minimum order amount to INR 99 for free delivery and eliminated the handling fee and surge charge that are assessed to its customers for each order. The company is promoting "zero handling fee", "zero delivery fee (for orders over INR 99)", and "zero rain and surge charge" on its app under the banner of its "All new Zepto experience".

When it came to handling the products in customers' orders at their locations, Zepto used to charge a handling fee. In a similar vein, extra charges—like a rain fee—are used to reward delivery partners. In response to ET's questions, the business stated that Zepto will keep offering its delivery partners incentives. Each order from rival Blinkit incurs a handling cost of INR 11 and a delivery fee of INR 30 for orders under INR 199. For orders under INR 199, Instamart charges a handling fee of INR 9.8 and a delivery fee of INR 30.

Quick Shots

•Zepto launches two pilot offerings — Super Mall for premium, high-value products and Zepto Diagnostics for at-home medical tests.

•Super Mall targets higher-margin categories such as fashion, electronics, tech accessories, and home décor.

•Pilots rolled out to limited cities and select users to test demand and customer stickiness.

Super Mall aligns with Zepto’s strategy to drive larger cart sizes and attract premium shoppers.
