India’s professional development and coaching market is growing rapidly, with the personal development sector expected to reach USD 3.6 billion by 2030. As 79% of women aspire to leadership roles but face slower promotions, the focus is shifting toward inner leadership and mental well-being.

As part of our International Women’s Day special series, we spoke with Veena Dhandhia, a coach focused on self-mastery and inner transformation, to understand why inner leadership is essential for women’s growth and how it can unlock confidence, clarity, and resilience.

StartupTalky: Your work addresses a critical but often overlooked dimension of women’s leadership, the inner landscape that shapes confidence, decision-making, and resilience. Why do you think inner leadership remains under-discussed in conversations about women’s professional growth?

Veena Dhandhia: The inner landscape of any individual is deeply connected to Self-Mastery: the ability to master one's thoughts, emotions and actions that will lead them to happier and more fulfilled lives both personally and professionally. The foundation or inner self as we call it, must be strong enough to build confidence, resilience and decision-making powers.

Inner leadership of women is less discussed as people tend to judge women by the results they produce, the impact and outcomes they can give, the outer leadership skills they portray, the power of their speech, their visible achievements: all external factors. It is almost as if inner leadership of women is taken for granted or not important enough to be discussed. There is still hesitation in many professional spaces to talk openly about beliefs, emotions, and inner patterns. Yet they contribute significantly to how women lead, overcome challenges and sustain career growth over the period of time.

StartupTalky: Women often carry a significant emotional and mental load while balancing roles, expectations, and ambition. How does your coaching approach help women navigate this complexity?

Veena Dhandhia: Most women carry a deep conditioning that is shaped by upbringing, constant expectations, family responsibilities and the pressure to “do it all”, without expecting or asking for any help. A significant part of my work focuses on helping women shift this internal thought process, from “I am not enough” to “I am enough” to “I am MORE than enough” is a concept I work on through NLP procedures, and Self-Mastery techniques. Together with these, simple yet powerful techniques on Work-Life-Balance followed consistently, keeping up high energy levels within the women, alongside calm and satisfaction in achieving what people may term ‘tremendously difficult or impossible’.

StartupTalky: Many women struggle with moving from self-doubt to self-trust in their professional lives. What frameworks or practices have you found most effective in facilitating this transformation?

Veena Dhandhia: Over the years, I have developed and used several approaches that help individuals move from self-doubt to self-trust. The InnerMost Shift Coaching Model, the IC Probe Gap Framework and NLP are the tested effective tools.

These frameworks hone down to bringing to the surface all the sterling qualities we potentially have within us, to empower self-belief and self-trust within us and with this, to pave the way for a better future in all areas of our lives.

Through structured reflection and guided exploration, individuals begin to reconnect with their innate strengths and develop stronger self-belief. This shift not only transforms how they see themselves, but also how they approach opportunities, leadership, and their future.

Sartuptalky: As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, what does true empowerment look like when it goes beyond external achievements to include inner well-being and self-awareness?

Veena Dhandhia: Every woman has immense potential within herself, waiting to be recognised and nurtured. True empowerment is all about the Self: self-identity, self-love, self-care, self-confidence, self-respect, self-esteem, self-control, self-management. When these inner foundations are deeply nurtured, women can truly become the masterpieces that they deserve to be.

Living Life to the Fullest, unapologetically owning who they are and taking pride in their individuality is the greatest gift a woman can give herself.

StartupTalky: How can organizations and leaders create environments that support the inner growth and emotional resilience of women in the workplace?

Veena Dhandhia: Freedom from fear is the greatest supportive environment a workplace can provide its women. Then she can express her ideas, take initiatives and contribute to organisations success without fear of judgement, reprimands or down trods.

Organisation can support this by investing in workshops, mentoring and programs to alleviate and encourage their spirit in working would do wonders. After all, a woman does like to feel important and be pampered!

When women feel valued and supported, their motivation, creativity, and leadership naturally flourish - benefiting both the individual and the organisation.

StartupTalky: Can you share examples of how your coaching has helped women professionals unlock new levels of effectiveness and confidence in their careers?

Veena Dhandhia: The most powerful breakthroughs came from simple yet deeper conversations with my women clients.

For Example, A professional who was terribly unhappy with her job and wanted to switch to something more creative. During our reflective conversation, I asked her simple yet one powerful question - “What’s Stopping You?” This opened the door for honest reflections and clarity to explore a path that truly aligned with her calling.

Another professional who was struggling with work-life-balance devised simple systems and methods to keep it all intact, after partnering with me and indulging in a lot of self-talk and self-reflection. Now she approaches her work in a happy state of mind and returns back home equally fulfilled.

In another case, a professional who loved her work but hated her boss, through my interactional analysis exercises and communication strategies, learned ways to respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally and win him over to hear appreciation. Over time, this shifted the dynamics between them, now they sit and laugh together.

These are just a few examples. In many cases, coaching deeply helps individuals rediscover the clarity, confidence, and improve relationships be it in personal or professional life.

StartupTalky: What advice would you give to women who feel stuck between societal expectations and their own aspirations, and how can coaching help them find clarity?

Veena Dhandhia: Nothing is “Impossible”, it’s always “I’m possible!”

Through what I call the ILF Framework - Inner Learning to Forward Living, women learn to draw lessons from the past, apply them consciously in the present, and create the future they truly deserve.

Life will always bring challenges, expectations, and responsibilities (no one escaped that). The key is not to wait for those difficulties to leave, but to solve, reduce or accept them as the case may be and still move towards your aspirations without giving up.

Most importantly, learn to value and care for yourself because when you truly respect and love yourself, you are able to show up more fully for others as well.

Every woman deserves a space where she feels heard and supported.

Coaching creates that space - helping women reflect, gain clarity, understand and manage her emotions and find proven ways to move forward. When approached seriously, coaching becomes a powerful investment in oneself. With guidance, structure, and accountability, women can move beyond self-doubt and build lives and careers that feel more purposeful and fulfilling.

Become the Masterpiece you truly deserve to become!
