Hinton Studios: About

Hinton Studios is a Bengaluru-based, AI-native cinematic production studio. Our philosophy is simple: filmmakers first, AI as the camera. We produce photoreal, cinema-grade video for feature films, ad films, music videos and branded content, and we develop original IP rooted in Indian mythology, period drama and contemporary stories.

Where a traditional shoot needs sets, crews, locations and weeks of post-production, Hinton delivers the same visual ambition through a proprietary AI production pipeline, directed by people who think like cinematographers, not prompt operators. The result is big-screen imagery at a fraction of the cost and time, which opens up epic-scale storytelling to brands, labels and creators who could never afford it before. Founded in mid 2026, Hinton is an incorporated, trademark-filed company run by co-founders spanning filmmaking, engineering and business.

Hinton Studios: Industry

Hinton Studios - Industry and Market Size
Hinton Studios - Industry and Market Size

Hinton Studios operates in the media and entertainment industry, specifically focusing on AI-driven film, advertising, and content production.

According to the FICCI-EY Media & Entertainment Report 2026, India’s M&E sector grew 9% to ₹2.78 lakh crore in 2025 and is projected to reach ₹3.3 lakh crore by 2028. Digital media became the largest segment, crossing ₹1 lakh crore in revenue for the first time, and digital advertising grew 26% to ₹94,700 crore. Regional languages now account for more than half of OTT content. Every one of these trends (such as more digital ads, more OTT, more regional content) means more demand for high-quality video at lower cost, which is exactly where AI production sits.

The global commercial video production market is valued at $65B–$75B, derived as follows:

  • Digital Ad Spend (2026): ~$836 billion globally.
  • Video Media Spend: ~$292 billion (35% of digital ad spend).
  • Baseline Ad-Film Production: ~$44 billion (averaging 15% of video media spend).
  • Total Addressable Market: $65B–$75B when factoring in PR-funded branded content and label-funded music videos.

Within this broader ecosystem, Hinton Studios targets the $5.5 billion AI video sub-segment, which is growing at a 32% CAGR. By replacing expensive traditional shoots with generative AI, CGI,etc, Hinton helps brands reallocate budgets toward high-volume, multi-format AI commercials and other video production needs.

AI video will move from novelty to standard production infrastructure. The company expect a split in next 5 years: commodity AI content will become nearly free and abundant, while cinema-grade, story-driven AI production, with consistent characters, real physics and a director’s eye, will command a premium. Studios that combine craft with technology will win; pure tool-operators will be squeezed. Regional and mythological storytelling will be one of the biggest beneficiaries.

Hinton finds itself as a full-stack AI film company with three pillars: a commercial studio serving India’s top brands and platforms; an original-IP slate including feature films and long-form series from Indian epics; and Hinton Academy, training thousands of AI filmmakers in next 5-10 years. Underpinning all three, their own proprietary cinema-grade generative video technology.

Hinton Studios: Founders and Team

Hinton Studios - Founders (Abhinava Sanyal & Avkash Kumar)
Hinton Studios - Founders (Abhinava Sanyal & Avkash Kumar)

Abhinava Sanyal — Co-founder, Creative Director & CTO

Abhinava leads engineering and production pipelines, the technical systems that turn a script into consistent, cinema-grade footage, and is spearheading Hinton’s proprietary technology roadmap. Abhinava has a long and illustrative career in tech, with his last role being that of a CTO in a Y Combinator backed start-up based out of Silicon Valley, US.

Avkash Kumar— Co-founder, Head of Revenue & CBO

Avkash leads revenue and capital, business development, partnerships and fundraising. He is a serial entrepreneur and an IIT Kharagpur graduate who has expertise in building and scaling business and has been a key growth catalyst in all his previous start-ups. Avkash comes from a rich multi industry experience, with a vibrant network of IIT alumni and deep connections in the major funding ecosystems in the country.

Team size and culture: Hinton Studios has a small, senior, craft-obsessed team. Everyone on a Hinton project is expected to have a point of view on the shot, not just the tool. Apart from the 2 founders, they have multiple teams of trained artists from across the country who ensure every aspect of the creative process is driven by a creative eye trained in the particular subject matter. Hinton takes special care in training, hand holding and unskilling all these artists- so the best of AI assisted content gets shipped out of their studio!

Hinton Studio: Startup Story

In late 2023 when respectable video and audio models started appearing on the scene, the company began experimenting alongside doing our previous native AI start-up. They soon realised that in the AI- assisted media generation industry, learning to master AI is of secondary importance.

The primary subject matter that needs mastery is Filmmaking and storytelling. It was then, the founders decided to gave up their careers in software engineering and began their filmmaking journey. They uploaded a Mahabharata concept trailer in early 2025, the views on which reached lakhs and they generated a lot of enquiries from businesses to have a video produced for them.

This made their suspicion even more stronger and the founders dived even deeper into filmmaking and left no stone unturned to learn all the skills that are essentially needed right from the pre-production stage to the post-production stage. It's true that having pre-existing knowledge about how to use, create and modify existing AI systems- did give them an unfair advantage over others- but the kind of serious benchmarks they started setting - began getting more attention.

The reason they wanted to become filmmakers and established Hinton as a filmmaking company, instead of a tool-making or ai-leveraging creative agency, is because Avkash and Abhinava believed in 2026 or in the years ahead - no amount of tools expertise can be a moat alone. In order to be successful in the Industry they were in, one has to keep making breakthroughs- and the area where that can be done is using the craft of filmmaking. This belief was key behind the establishment of Hinton Studios.

Validation and prototyping. Before pitching anyone, they built their own proof of capability. They developed a production pipeline that mirrors a real film set: screenplay and shot breakdown, then reference assets, character sheets, location plates, prop and prop-handling sheets, so that characters, costumes and objects stay consistent from shot to shot, which is the single hardest problem in AI filmmaking. On top of that they built a human-led prompting system with a dedicated “Director of Photography” layer that encodes lens, lighting, camera movement and composition, so every shot is designed with pure intent, rather than generated at random.

Their first major prototype was a Krishna trailer rooted in the Mahabharata, including chariot and battle sequences and a Bhojpuri-language version with dialogue rewritten in authentic Ara–Chhapra dialect. It proved two things at once: that AI could deliver epic-scale mythology, and that cultural authenticity is where a real studio separates itself from generic AI output.

Hinton Studios: Vision and Mission

Short-term Vision (1–2 years)

To become India’s go-to studio for cinema-grade AI video: the first call for brands, music labels, OTT platforms and production houses who want blockbuster visuals on real-world budgets and timelines.

Long-term Vision

To build India’s leading AI-native film company: one that owns proprietary cinema-grade generative video technology, creates original Indian IP for global audiences, and trains the next generation of AI filmmakers. India has thousands of years of stories (the Mahabharata alone could fill decades of screen time), that have never been told at the scale they deserve because the budgets never existed. AI changes that equation, and we want to be the studio that proves it.

Technology does not make films; filmmakers do. Every AI tool on the market is available to everyone, so the tools are not the moat. Taste, story sense, cinematography and cultural authenticity are. We treat AI the way a DoP treats a camera: a powerful instrument that is only as good as the eye behind it.

The company's motto is “Filmmakers first. AI as the camera.”

There is no fancy or innovative story behind how the company came up with the name. The founders are engineers by academic background and they hold Jeffrey Hinton, the Godfather of AI, with the highest degree of respect for his contributions to the field. The company was named after him. The company's tagline, “Filmmakers first. AI as the camera,” is their entire philosophy in six words.

Hinton Studios: Products/Services

What does company offer:

  • Ad films and brand films — cinematic commercials for D2C, consumer and corporate brands.
  • Music videos — narrative and performance videos for labels and independent artists.
  • Branded and educational content — explainers and series for creators, educators and platforms.
  • Original IP — feature films and series drawn from Indian mythology and history, developed in-house.

How it works

Every project runs through a film-grade pipeline: brief and script → shot-by-shot breakdown → reference asset design (characters, locations, props) → image generation for key frames → video generation with DoP-layer direction → AI-assisted music and sound → edit, grade and finishing. Human creative direction sits at every stage.

Problems they solve

  • Cost and time: epic visuals — battles, period sets, fantasy worlds — that would cost crores on a physical shoot can be delivered at a fraction of the budget and in weeks, not months.
  • Quality gap in AI video: most AI content looks inconsistent and generic. Our reference-asset system and cinematography layer deliver continuity and intent.
  • Access: regional brands, independent musicians and creators get production value previously reserved for big-budget campaigns.

USP and Innovation

The founders are filmmakers who use AI, not technologists who make videos. the company's edge is a combination of:

  • A proprietary production pipeline and Director-of-Photography prompting system
  • Deep expertise in Indian mythology, languages and culture
  • A 12-month roadmap to build our own proprietary cinema-grade generative video technology

Technology

The company work across leading generative image, video and audio models, including MiniMax (Hailuo), Seedance and Suno, orchestrated through its own prompting systems, asset libraries and internal tools.

Hinton Studios: Business and Revenue Model

Hinton Studios - Pricing
Hinton Studios - Pricing
  • Project-based production fees — per film/video, priced off tire-based pricing.
TIRE 1: INR 1 Lakh+ gst/ per minute of finished footage.
TIRE 2: INR 1000+ gst/ per second of finished footage (Finished footage means everything included complimentary as listed below -

-- Pre production: script breakdown, screenplay adaptation, character and look bibles, storyboards, shot lists

-- Production: generation and coverage, continuity passes

-- Post production: edit, VFX clean-up, grade, sound design, final mix, QC, mastering)

  • Retainers and content pipelines — Ongoing monthly content for brands and channels.
  • Franchise partner network — Scouts and partners who bring in business earn a share of deal profit (not revenue), tiered from 10% to 20% as deal profitability rises. This lets us expand reach across cities without adding fixed cost.
  • Original IP — Development and co-production of films and series, monetised through production partnerships, licensing and platform deals.
  • Education — Hinton Academy (online certification and a residential programme), launching by Dec 2026

Hinton Studios: Launching Company Strategies

The company launched the way a sales team would, not the way a creative agency usually does, and that came directly from its background in enterprise sales.

  • A structured prospect database: Built a classified outreach database of 1,100+ contacts — production houses, OTT platforms, D2C brands, media publishers and music labels — tiered into four priority categories.
  • Vertical-specific pitch decks: Instead of one generic deck, it built a family of tailored proposals for each client vertical, all in one consistent Hinton visual identity.
  • Multi-channel sequences: Cold email followed by WhatsApp, which in India often gets a faster reply from decision-makers than email.
  • Show, don’t tell: where a client could not imagine what AI could do for them, we offered a free sample, for example, rebuilding one of their existing videos as a cinema-grade version over the original audio. A 30-second sample closes faster than a 30-slide deck.
  • Founder-led content: Building an audience on X around AI filmmaking craft, model breakdowns and behind-the-scenes work, which brings inbound credibility.

Hinton Studios: Customer Growth and Retention Strategies

  • Partnerships over ads: Hinton Studios works with established production houses and producers rather than competing with them — for example, a partnership with TrendLoud Productions (Chennai) and a development-and-production collaboration with Citizen Care Films (Patna).
  • Franchise partner model: A profit-sharing network of people who scout and bring in work, scaling our reach without a large sales team.
  • Retention through pipelines: Moving clients from one-off projects to recurring content pipelines, such as an ongoing content deal with a children’s content YouTube channel.

Hinton Studios: Challenges Faced

Consistency — The Hardest Technical Problem in AI film

Early on, a character could look different in every shot, a sword could melt mid-swing, a chariot could change design between cuts. That is fine for a meme; it is fatal for a film. We solved it by borrowing from traditional pre-production: building full reference asset kits, character sheets, location plates, prop sheets and even prop-handling references, before generating a single shot, and directing every frame through a cinematography layer.

Scepticism from the Traditional Industry

Many producers and brands either doubted AI could look cinematic or worried about how it would be received. The company responded by leading with finished work and free samples rather than arguments.

Cultural Authenticity

Generic AI tends to produce generic India. But these are the exact areas where Hinton always prefer going the extra mile. For the Krishna trailer they rewrote the Bhojpuri script in authentic Ara–Chhapra dialect and grounded the mythology in documented sources. That extra effort became a differentiator.

What Didn’t Work

For emerging AI film studios in India, the inability to gain a foothold often comes down to a harsh intersection of market stigma and perceived value. First, the industry suffers from a severe lack of early adopters; traditional production houses are highly risk-averse and deeply reliant on established star-driven systems, making them hesitant to entrust high-stakes projects to entirely new pipelines.

Compounding this hesitation is a fundamental misunderstanding of the labor involved: because consumer generative tools are widely accessible, clients often assume all AI work is "easy" or instantaneous, leading to a refusal to pay premium rates even for complex, highly engineered cinematic outputs. Most damaging, however, is the reputational crisis caused by the "AI slop" market.

With the internet flooded by low-effort, glaringly artificial AI-generated content, the technology's overall image has hit new lows. As a result, when a dedicated studio presents meticulously crafted, high-standard AI work, traditional filmmakers and audiences often dismiss it on arrival, blinded by the assumption that anything touched by AI will inherently lack human craft or artistic soul.

Current Challenges

The underlying AI models change every few weeks, so the company's pipeline has to be rebuilt and re-tested constantly. Educating clients on pricing, AI is cheaper than a shoot, but cinema-grade AI is not free, and is an ongoing conversation. And finding people who combine a filmmaker’s eye with technical fluency remains our biggest hiring constraint.

Hinton Studios: Marketing Strategy

There was a bold strategy that the company adopted, but it worked well in its favour. In the early days, there was not much credibility to show for and the charges that they had were notches above what other generic AI Video startups were having in the market. In such a situation, the company offered to do the work for free. This gave them an opportunity to maximise quality and prove its forte. Once the clients saw the work, the potential of having Hinton as a content partner got established without much discussion and the price points started making sense. While now they have stopped doing free samples, the mere establishment of the fact that Hinton’s work has started speaking for itself, to the point that paying a premium starts making sense for people - gave them a lot of confidence.

Hinton Studios: Current Performance

Operating locations: Headquartered in Bengaluru, with operations in Kolkata, Noida and Patna

Revenue / profitability: They have reached MRR of INR 20 Lakhs within the first 90 days since company registration and running profitable.

Projects delivered:  10+ Notable clients and partners including TrendLoud Productions, Nice Kids P Ltd, StoreKing, Epik, EdWagon, etc

In development: RANCHHOD, a two-part Krishna feature saga — Part One “The Brothers”, Part Two “The Price” — developed by Hinton Studios and produced by Citizen Care Films- currently under pre-production.

Hinton Studios: Funding

Hinton Studios is currently bootstrapped by its founders. Bootstrapping an AI studio is essential because speed and adaptability matter far more than upfront capital.

In a landscape where generative video models and API costs drop every few months, heavy early funding often locks a studio into expensive, fast-obsoleting infrastructure or bloated burn rates before finding product-market fit.

By bootstrapping, a studio stays agile, forcing the team to focus on sharp storytelling, lean workflows, and immediate client revenue rather than over-engineering proprietary tech. Bootstrapping ensures that the focus remains on building real creative value and sustainable unit economics, keeping the studio nimble enough to pivot instantly whenever the next breakthrough AI model drops.

Hinton Studios: Key Tools and Software

A modern AI film studio operates less like a traditional physical set and more like a high-volume software development pipeline. But people using those softwares at Hinton are all trained artists and subject matter experts. A fully scaled studio like ours, in 2026, relies on a wide and, highly specialized stack to solve continuity, upscaling, and asset management issues.

Pre-Production & Development

  • Scripting & Analysis: Claude (for narrative structuring and prompt ideation), alongside dedicated film management tools like Studiovity or Celtx for industry-standard breakdowns and scheduling.
  • Storyboarding & Lookbooks: Midjourney remains the standard for establishing rigid visual style guides and reference character sheets. Studios also use LTX Studio, which excels at breaking down scripts and turning them directly into automated, shot-by-shot visual pre-visualization, or Boords for traditional storyboard mapping.

Production (Generative "Filming")

  • Primary Video Models: Studios rarely rely on just one model.
    • Seedance 2.0 / 2.5: Relied on heavily for precise multimodal reference control, allowing directors to upload reference videos to replicate complex camera movements and character choreography.
    • Runway Gen-4.5: Used for fine motion control and specific object animation via tools like Motion Brush.
    • Google Veo 3.1: Favored for highly cinematic hero shots and generating native audio directly within the clip.
    • Kling AI 01, Luma AI, and MiniMax (Hailuo): Kept in the rotation for specific aesthetic strengths or physical motion generation.
  • Unified AI Workspaces: Platforms like Morphic are used as central canvases to run, prompt, and combine outputs from multiple models (Veo, Kling, Seedance) in one visual workspace without bouncing between browser tabs.
  • Audio & Sound Design: ElevenLabs v4 is the industry standard for expressive voiceovers, multi-language dubbing, and AI sound effects (foley). Suno and Seed Audio are used for original score and soundtrack generation.

Post-Production & Finishing

  • Upscaling & Restoration: Topaz Video AI is mandatory. Because many AI models still output at 720p or 1080p with occasional flickering, Topaz is run locally to upscale footage to 4K, denoise artifacts, and smooth out frame rates via interpolation.
  • Rough Cuts & Audio Prep: Descript is frequently used for blazing-fast, text-based assembly cuts and cleaning up generated audio before sending the XML to a heavier editor.
  • The NLE (Non-Linear Editor): DaVinci Resolve is the dominant choice for final assembly because heavy, precise color grading is required to unify clips generated by completely different AI models (matching a Runway shot to a Veo shot). Premiere Pro and After Effects are used for manual compositing and painting out AI hallucinations.

Operations & Asset Management

  • Asset Organization: A tool like Eagle is indispensable. An AI studio generates thousands of "failed" or alternate image seeds and video clips; Eagle allows them to visually tag, filter, and recall reference files instantly.
  • Project Tracking: Notion is heavily utilized not just for Kanban boards, but for maintaining complex "Prompt Libraries"—centralized databases recording the exact camera verbs, lighting terms, and character seed IDs that yield the best results for a specific project.
  • Review: Frame.io remains essential for frame-accurate client reviews and version control.

Hinton Studios: Startup Programs and External Support

Hinton has applied to the MSME Idea Hackathon 6.0 (Ministry of MSME) for grant support towards a 12-month programme to develop proprietary cinema-grade generative video technology. The same is under Evaluation.

Hinton Studios: Recognition and Achievements

Hinton Studios has the very rare achievement of monetising its own YouTube channel with just 1 video, within a couple of weeks from opening its channel.

Hinton Studios: Competitors

  • Six Sigma Films AI Studio: Positioning itself as "India's first filmmaker-led AI production studio," Six Sigma competes directly with Hinton’s narrative and ad film divisions. Because they fuse 17 years of traditional cinematic craft with generative AI, they target the same high-end clients looking for broadcast-grade quality and vertical micro-dramas rather than cheap AI social media slop.
  • SagaNix Studios (Hyderabad): SagaNix is a direct competitor in the premium, long-form AI space. Like Hinton, they focus heavily on architectural control over AI—emphasizing continuity, camera language, AI VFX, and pre-visualization for feature films and cinematic commercials. Both studios pitch themselves as capable of building controlled, frame-by-frame AI cinema.

Hinton Studios: Future Plans

  • Proprietary technology: a 12-month build of Hinton’s own cinema-grade generative video technology, reducing dependence on third-party models.
  • Original IP: taking RANCHHOD into production and developing a long-form Mahabharata series. Another project called “Akhyan" based on the stories from Indian Mythology is also under development.
  • Hinton Academy: launching online certification courses and an AI filmmaking campus in Patna, with programmes for creators, engineering students and institutions.
  • Expansion: growing the franchise partner network across Indian cities and deepening work with OTT and regional-language platforms.
