Adani Airports to Sell 5.54% Stake to Raise $1 Billion
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) is selling a 5.54% interest to a consortium that includes Alpha Wave Global, Temasek, Premji Invest and funds managed by BlackRock for INR 9,825 crore ($1 billion). The transaction values AAHL at some $18 billion before the investment.
A group of international and local investors will put up INR 9,825 crore (about $1 billion) to fund Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), the airports division of Adani Enterprises. This group of investors will end up with approximately 5.54% of the company once the deal closes.
Members of the investment consortium include Alpha Wave Global, Temasek, Premji Invest, and BlackRock-managed funds. According to an exchange report made by Adani Enterprises on 9 September, the investment values AAHL at roughly $18 billion pre-money equity.
How Adani Airports’ Share Sell is Planned?
A Share Subscription Agreement and a Shareholders' Agreement will be put in place to allow investors to purchase new equity shares in AAHL in three instalments. The completion of the final tranche is anticipated to occur by July 2027, pending the usual clearances and conditions. Due to its rapid growth in the past few years, AAHL is now the largest airport operator in India.
About a quarter of India's passengers and a third of the country's aviation cargo go via the eight airports that the firm runs, one of which is Mumbai International Airport. When it comes to passengers handled, the GMR Group is still by and large the biggest operator in India's aviation sector. The expansion has solidified Adani Airports' position as a major player in India's aviation infrastructure, catering to the increasing need for passenger traffic and air connectivity.
How Adani Airport Will Utilise the Proceeds?
Airport infrastructure, Adani Airport City projects, ground handling, and non-aeronautical industries would all get a boost from the new funding. Phase one of the Airport City projects by AAHL will include mixed-use development of about 22 million sq ft. The corporation has set a goal of increasing yearly airport capacity to about 200 million people.
Adani Airport Holdings' Non-Executive Director Jeet Adani hailed the investment as a watershed moment for the airports platform. Further, he promised that the business will keep pouring money into it in anticipation of future expansion. One of the most potent multipliers of India's GDP development, he said, is the aviation sector. In addition, he made a point of saying that better air travel facilitates commerce, tourism, jobs, and regional development. He claimed the new alliance will allow the firm to expand its infrastructure, urban developments, and non-aviation operations.
With the goal of making AAHL the biggest airport platform in the world, Adani Airport Holdings CEO Arun Bansal stated that the company will keep working to improve its capabilities. Key areas for expansion, he said, included increased consumer spending, growth potential across India, and the development of city-side initiatives.
