Amber Enterprises to Make Oppo, OnePlus and Realme Phones in India From FY28
Amber Enterprises will start commercial smartphone manufacture in India for Oppo, OnePlus and Realme from Q1 FY28 after trial production in Q4 FY27. Amber has partnered with Oppo Mobiles India and plans to manufacture roughly 8 million smartphones in the first year.
Amber Enterprises is in the process of preparing to introduce smartphones to its production line. The electronics manufacturing services provider is targeting the first quarter of FY2027–28 to launch commercial smartphone production for Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme. Nonetheless, the trial production is anticipated to commence in the last quarter of FY2026-27.
The three smartphone brands' authorised manufacturer in India, Oppo Mobiles India, is the partner in this manufacturing cooperation. In its first year of operation, Amber anticipates producing 8 million smartphones. As the company grows, it aims to increase output to 15–16 million handsets in its second year.
Amber Enhancing its Manufacturing Portfolio
The company's expansion into smartphone production is a big step forward for Amber, which now offers a wider range of consumer goods. It was in June that the business announced its collaboration with Oppo Mobiles India. The company is getting ready to launch the new business, according to Jasbir Singh, who is also the executive chairman, chief executive officer, and whole-time director of Amber. Additionally, the company's mobile segment now has a chief operational officer.
With the expected increase in output, Amber may be able to establish a sizable presence in the expanding electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. In India's smartphone market, Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme are already well-known. Counterpoint Research data reported by PTI indicates that in the second quarter of 2026, Vivo had a 17.8% share of the smartphone sales volume, followed by Samsung at 17.6% and Oppo at 13.6%. In the third quarter of 2018, 45.6% of India's smartphone market belonged to brands within the larger Vivo and Oppo groups. These brands included iQoo, Realme, and OnePlus. Amber is able to expand its business beyond its current electronics manufacturing operations and have access to a large handset ecosystem through this cooperation. Some of the company's current divisions are experiencing cost challenges, which is why it is expanding into smartphones.
Amber Going Through Rough Patch
The increased cost of copper-clad laminate is putting pressure on Amber's profit margins in the bare printed circuit board sector. Despite the delay, the business has been charging consumers more to cover the rising cost of inputs. Demand from AI and data centre applications, together with shortages of the material, has contributed to the increase in the price of copper-clad laminate. In order to alleviate part of that supply pressure, Amber plans to build its own copper-clad laminate factory by 2029–30.
Because of this, the smartphone business has the potential to become a significant new growth engine for Amber as it increases its manufacturing base. The business is crossing its fingers that India's fiercely competitive electronics manufacturing industry will fuel its next massive assembly line, which is expected to go live in fiscal year 28 after trial production next year.
