Apple Set to Reveal Next-Generation AI Capabilities at WWDC 2026 Under Tim Cook

At its annual developers conference (June 8 to 12, 2026), Apple is likely to introduce new AI technologies. Before John Ternus takes over as CEO in September, this conference will be the final appearance by Tim Cook. Unlike the fall launch of the latest iPhones, the World Wide Developers Conference typically centers around software.

The Silicon Valley offices of Apple are visited by thousands of developers from around 60 countries during the conference. The iPhone maker is expected by analysts to announce new AI features and capabilities, including advancements with its voice assistant Siri.

Apple Still Lacking in AI Race

Apple has been lagging behind its Big Tech competitors in artificial intelligence. In order to fuel its AI features, it utilises Google's Gemini AI model. According to Gadjo Sevilla, a senior analyst at Emarketer, 2026 will be a "transition year" for the developer conference. Although hardware products are not typically unveiled during this event, attendees may catch glimpses of Apple's new smart home, foldable, and wearable product lines through developer and ecosystem updates, he added.

After being rethought as an AI chatbot, Siri, according to Sevilla, will be more conversational, remember past interactions, and multitask with a single request. According to him, people are hopeful about the possibility of an improved Siri. If Siri can succeed in becoming a genuine platform in the agentic era, then developers will have something to work for. It is a moment that will go down in Cook's historical record. At WWDC, the company's valuation is $1.6 trillion more than it was just a year ago, and it is trading at almost 36 times trailing profits. According to the firm, Apple is doing an outstanding job of executing its strategy, with the strongest iPhone cycle in years.

Ternus Replacing Cook

After 15 years at the helm, during which the iPhone drove the company's market value to almost $4 trillion, Cook announced his departure in April. For the last 25 years, Ternus has been Apple's head of engineering for the Mac, iPad, and iPhone. He has been with the company for 25 years overall. By virtue of his position as an engineer, he was well-positioned to succeed Cook.

Apple is at a crossroads as it begins the search for a new chief executive officer. Since Jobs introduced the first iPhone in 2007, the biggest seismic shift in the industry has occurred as a result of AI. Despite promising new capabilities based on artificial intelligence (AI) over two years ago, Apple has struggled to deliver on those promises.
