Priority Postpaid Goes Live as Bharti Airtel Expands 5G Services in India
Priority Postpaid, a new service by Bharti Airtel that uses 5G slicing technology, was announced for launch on 19 May. The service will dynamically prioritise network capacity for postpaid customers, and this is the first commercial rollout of its kind in India, according to Airtel. Customers who rely on constant connectivity for work, entertainment, or online collaboration are the target audience for the new service, according to the company's statement.
Airtel has enhanced its 5G network with cutting-edge slicing capabilities for this service. More capacity is generated and the network becomes more efficient as a result. It goes a step further by allowing targeted use of slicing capacity to provide Priority customers an exceptional experience.
Airtel’s Business Roadmap with 5G Services
Over the last year, operators in several global markets have launched 5G services based on slicing. These markets include the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia. The launch, according to Airtel, is evidence of the company's dedication to developing a digital network that is both intelligent and prepared for the future. The telecom provider has announced that all of its postpaid plans will be eligible for the Priority service and that all current postpaid customers will be automatically upgraded.
Customers who currently use Airtel's prepaid services can switch to their postpaid plans by using the Airtel app or going to an Airtel store. A variety of digital services and content are included with the plans by the company. With the INR 449 individual plan, users get 100 GB of cloud storage, Adobe Express Premium, and Airtel Xstream Play. Streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV+, Apple Music, Amazon Prime, and JioHotstar are available with more expensive family plans.
Priority Postpaid is the newest offering from Airtel, driven by 5G slicing technology, according to Shashwat Sharma, MD and CEO of Airtel India. Whether its users are stuck in traffic on the way to a client call, trying to stream a live performance, or trying to hail a cab in a busy market, it always delivers a better, more dependable experience, Sharma added.

1.Airtel’s Priority Postpaid service is
designed for high-demand use cases like video calls, live streaming, gaming,
and real-time collaboration. 2.Unlike traditional premium plans, the new
service reportedly prioritises network performance rather than just offering
extra data or OTT benefits. 3.Industry analysts believe 5G
prioritisation could create a new “premium internet” category in India’s
telecom market. |
5G Priortised Plans Bringing More Transparency
Now, telecom companies are claiming that 5G prioritised plans are unique since they don't target or restrict any particular websites or apps. Internet users' access to the same content is unaffected by their plan. However, according to analysts, the focus is moving away from discrimination based on content and toward differentiation based on users or classes. Although current regulations forbid operators from unfairly treating online platforms, 5G technology may enable them to provide different levels of service quality to different customer segments while still technically complying with the rules.
As a result, during times of network congestion, premium users may enjoy quicker speeds, fewer delays, and more stable connectivity than standard users. Experts contend that prioritisation inevitably leads to unequal service experiences, despite operators' claims that regular users are not being degraded. The matter also has business ramifications because customers may start to see premium postpaid plans as a means to improve the quality of their network.
