Key Business News for 10 September 2026
Govt Tightens Ecommerce Rules Ahead Of Festive Season
The central government amended ecommerce rules to curb dark patterns on online marketplaces and quick commerce platforms, under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) (Amendment) Rules, 2026. The new regime, replacing the 2020 rules, will take effect from January 2027 and requires platforms to disclose sponsored listings, show genuine price history, and obtain explicit consumer consent.
The changes come as ecommerce and quick commerce platforms prepare for the festive season, which typically sees a sharp rise in consumer complaints about dark patterns. The government told Parliament earlier this year that more than 5.1 lakh complaints were filed against ecommerce and quick commerce platforms in 2025, with most directed at Flipkart, Amazon and Meesho.
