Ford Establishes Third India Technology and Business Services Centre at Coimbatore
Ford Motor has launched its third India Technology and Business Services Centre in Coimbatore, boosting its global capability centre (GCC) network. The new site will include technology, data analytics, finance, credit, treasury and business continuity functions.
As a global capability centre (GCC), Ford Business Solutions (FBS) in Chennai is a vital cog in the wheel of numerous internationally acclaimed models produced by the American carmaker Ford Motor Company. Coimbatore is the third of the company's offices in India, and its opening on 8 July was an important step in realising its long-term strategic goals. The tech, data science, and analytics sectors will account for about half of the company's projected growth in India.
The establishment of the new office in Coimbatore is a strategic move by Ford to fortify its worldwide operations. It will be a specialised centre for business continuity and is located at SVB Tech Park. Teams assisting with global business operations, credit, and treasury for Ford will be based out of the new centre. More than 600 of the facility's 800 staff will be based in Coimbatore at the outset.
Why Coimbatore’s Centre is so Crucial for FBS?
Many of the parts used by Ford Motor Company's best-selling vehicles around the world have their roots in the Chennai-based Global Technology and Business Center. A few examples of these models are the F-Series, Explorer, Transit, and Ranger. Bengaluru is home to the company's Technology Incubation Centre. Even though Ford Motor Company wound up its factories in August 2022 and left the country's automobile manufacturing, FBS continued to employ over 12,000 workers in India. The majority of the centre's staff will be from the Accounting, Ford Credit, and Business Operations departments, according to Gangapriya Chakraverti, managing director and site head of Ford Business Solutions in India.
The Coimbatore site is pivotal to FBS India's plan for business continuity, and these teams service Ford's worldwide markets. Consequently, making sure essential processes run smoothly. In the event that the Chennai centre experiences operational interruptions due to bad weather or other causes, the new centre will step in to provide uninterrupted services.
With around 82,000 square feet spread across three stories of SVB Tech Park, the Coimbatore facility can accommodate around 800 employees. Each level contains over 230 workstations, and there are also conference rooms and boardrooms available for use in a collaborative or hybrid setting. Additionally, there are pantry facilities, booth seats for casual conversations, and focus rooms for undisturbed study at the centre. The breadth and expertise that allow FBS India to take end-to-end ownership of Ford’s select worldwide processes have been built over 25 years, according to Chakraverti.
India GCC Ecosystem Continues to Transform
As India's GCC ecosystem transitions from a delivery base to a source of strategic ownership for global enterprises, the Coimbatore centre's opening coincides with this shift. Ford's technological and business development in India is being spearheaded by FBS India's teams. Therefore, supplying Ford Motor Company with solutions and services driven by technology.
By further guaranteeing the robustness and dependability of Ford's worldwide business operations, the Coimbatore centre augments that contribution. The FBS group provides software development, computer-aided engineering, and computer-aided design support to Ford's worldwide operations.
