Google Plans $40 Billion Investment in Anthropic to Boost AI Race
Anthropic will receive $10 billion from Google today, with an additional $30 billion on the table if the artificial intelligence business meets specific performance targets. The latest indication that Big Tech's hunger for cutting-edge AI is far from abating is the purchase, which values Anthropic at $350 billion.
Serious computational muscle is part of the deal, in addition to the cash. Anthropic will receive 5 gigawatts of computing capacity from Google Cloud over the next five years, with additional room for growth. As a point of reference, it is possible to power approximately 750,000 American houses simultaneously using just one gigawatt.
Why Anthropic is Receiving a Massive Backing from Google?
Pretty obviously, Claude Code is the driving force behind all this interest from investors. Many engineers in Silicon Valley, including allegedly some at Google, have started using Anthropic's AI coding helper as their go-to tool. The number of people using Anthropic has been significantly impacted by that type of adoption. Compared to $9 billion in 2025, yearly income has soared over $30 billion.
In less than two months, Anthropic's number of enterprise customers paying over $1 million per annum has quadrupled, and it is currently beyond 1,000. Anthropoc will spend $100 billion on AWS infrastructure over the next decade, and this Google commitment comes days after Amazon promised a separate $5 billion investment, with up to $20 billion more on the table. A trend is emerging: in order to finance its rapid expansion, Anthropic is exchanging its long-term computing promises for the necessary funding.
Win-Win Deal form Google, Amazon and Anthropic
Google and Amazon invest in Anthropic; Anthropic subsequently acquires cloud capacity and processors from them. Tensor processing units (TPUs) from Google are one of the few viable alternatives to the highly sought-after processors from Nvidia.
Therefore, they are a very valuable asset for any top-tier AI research facility. Reportedly, Anthropic is also thinking about going public as soon as October. More than twice as much as 24 April's deal suggests, investors have been pushing to support the firm at valuations beyond $800 billion. The momentum surrounding the Claude Code will determine if that gap is closed or not.
Anthropic Locks in AI Chip Supply Through New Partnership
Google and Broadcom have inked an agreement with Anthropic, the company said on April 7th. The purpose of the deal is to assure the availability of next-generation tensor processing units (TPUs) with capacities of multiple gigawatts, which are expected to be operational in 2027. The company's technological solutions are in high demand from customers all throughout the world, and the TPUs will help train and deploy frontier Claude models to keep up with that demand.
In addition to the sale news, the AI business that is set to go public also announced that its run-rate revenue has topped $30 billion. This is an increase from $9 billion at the end of 2025, brought about by the continued acceleration of demand for Claude on a global scale. Anthropic is constructing the infrastructure to support its exponential expansion, according to a blog post by CFO Krishna Rao. As a result of the support of its clientele, the business has been able to help Claude establish himself as an industry leader in artificial intelligence.
