The PhonePe 'RuPay On-The-Go' Card, a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), has been introduced by PhonePe. With this introduction, India is taking another step towards its goal of digitising transit payments nationwide, as outlined in its 'One Nation One Card' vision. The 'On-The-Go' card from PhonePe is an all-in-one transit card that aims to make the user's everyday journey easier. All NCMC-enabled services in India, such as metros, buses, trains, tolls, and parking, can be paid for quickly and easily with a tap of a finger.

Key Features of ‘On-The-Go’ Card

An important aspect is the cards' ability to be issued instantaneously, which greatly improves the convenience for millions of passengers. The card's chip stores the balance directly, making it a prepaid stored-value model. Using this concept, commuters can tap and pay even in places without internet, making it possible to make true offline contactless payments. This card has a maximum offline transaction limit of INR  500 and can be loaded with a balance up to INR 2,000. Launching the PhonePe 'On-The-Go' Card, which targets the millions of people who utilise public transport every day, PhonePe's Head of Payments, Deep Agrawal, expressed the company's excitement. Take advantage of the convenient 'Tap-and-Pay' feature at transit providers nationwide with this card.

Additionally, he mentioned that the card can function even when there is no internet connection, provided that there is a balance on the card. To connect its digital wallet ecosystem with public transport systems around the country, PhonePe has taken this initial step. Therefore, building on the NCMC architecture powered by RuPay, PhonePe will ensure a safe experience for all commuters and lay the groundwork for interoperability across the country.

Available at Hyderabad Metro Ticket Booths

The PhonePe 'On-The-Go' card is first available for purchase at Hyderabad Metro ticket booths. The customer can buy the card and load it with UPI, cash, or other cards when the metro agent verifies their phone number with a one-time password (OTP). The card is being launched in Hyderabad, but it is completely compatible with other cards and can be used and topped up at any public transport stations in India that are NCMC-enabled.

This includes major cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. Launching their full array of products, including NCMC card issuance and transaction acquisition, PhonePe has strategically entered the transit industry with this launch. In addition to the traditional card, PhonePe now offers digital ticketing, passes, and smart card recharges through its app, giving modern commuters a complete digital experience.
