Taxpayers Turn to Claude AI for ITR Filing, Calling it ‘Like a Personal CA’
Absolutely no CA costs. There will be no tedious sessions of staring at a blank screen. Claude, an AI developed by Anthropic, is quickly becoming the go-to choice for submitting income tax returns in corporate India, replacing the need for human accountants.
Social media was a meeting place for working professionals who shared stories of how they utilised AI to complete their income tax forms. From decoding complex tax terminologies to automatically accounting for mid-year employer transfers, identifying concealed discrepancies in the Annual Information Statement (AIS), and self-recovering from portal timeouts.
How Claude Helped Tax Fillers?
A senior Amazon executive based in Washington state named Akhil Sood went popular on LinkedIn after sharing the story of how he used an AI helper to prepare his Indian Income Tax Return (ITR). Sood said that filing taxes has always seemed more difficult "than it should be" for non-resident Indians. According to Sood, there was a period when he had to spend effort finding a CA, coordinating paperwork, waiting for responses, and attempting to comprehend unfamiliar lingo.
"The capacity to answer questions wasn't the only thing that impressed me," Sood stated. He gained a better grasp of the purpose of each field, the information needed to complete my return, the operation of the various income categories, and the things he needed to confirm. In addition, Sood mentioned that AI assisted him in detecting possible problems with the ITR website. It went on to tell him when and how to use the gateway to lodge complaints if he felt anything wasn't quite right. With that background, the whole thing was considerably less annoying.

Anthropic Faces Backlash
In an announcement made on the evening of June 12th, the San Francisco-based business Anthropic stated that Mythos 5 and Fable 5 had been ordered suspended by the US Department of Commerce for "national security" grounds; however, no other information was provided. In contrast to Mythos 5, which had few restrictions and was accessible to all partners, Fable 5 was carefully guarded to avoid any serious abuse.
This prevention was specifically designed to prevent the development of chemical and biological weapons or cybercrime. However, Anthropic claimed that an unnamed organization informed the Trump administration that it had discovered a method to circumvent security measures meant to prevent Fable 5 from being exploited in a cyberattack.
Several news sources have named Amazon as the third party that found the "narrow" vulnerability, and Anthropic has characterised the software vulnerabilities it uncovered as "minor". Anthropic claimed it had to take its models offline because it couldn't differentiate between users based on country, even though the order solely applied to access by foreign citizens. It is rare for a government to blatantly prohibit a local company's advanced AI model.
