Temple Targets $500 Million Valuation as it Unveils INR 80,000 AI Wearable

Health-tech startup Temple, founded by Deepinder Goyal, is looking to raise fresh funding at a $500 million valuation as it gears ready to launch its first AI-powered wearable at a price of 80,000. The forehead-mounted device records advanced physiological data with a patented “entropy”.

Temple, the health tech business founded by Deepinder Goyal of Eternal, is seeking new funding at a valuation of approximately $500 million. Nevertheless, it has set the price of its first wearable gadget at around INR 80,000. The pricing is still preliminary and will encompass everlasting access to Temple's software platform.

A lifetime supply of the adhesive tapes needed to secure the pebble-shaped gadget to the side of the forehead will also be included with the purchase. Temple is taking a chance that the area around the temples provides a more comprehensive source of physiological data than smartwatches and rings that take signals from the fingers or wrists.

Loaded Features of the Temple Device

The device detects signals associated with blood flow in the area around the temple. A more thorough understanding of the effects of sleep, diet, exercise, and stress on the body may be possible via the Temple Region, a region with a thick blood supply. A proprietary metric known as "entropy" is key to Temple's platform. Goyal defined entropy as the cost of survival as it exists in the present moment in a June post. On a scale from 1 to 250, the score is updated second by second to reflect the physiological status of the body.

At rest, a lower score indicates better health. When the body is mentally or physically taxed, entropy increases; when it is relaxed, it decreases. According to Goyal, the reading can be affected by things like exercise, sleep, food, coffee, meditation, and even submersion in cold water. Temple keeps tabs on the maximum and minimum entropy levels that users have recorded over time.

Temple Focussing on Health Device Sector

The business has the view that a healthy body ought to be able to go from a low-resting condition to a high-stress one swiftly. In order to promote healthy ageing and increase lifespan, the wearable is being positioned by the startup. Therefore, it is argued that physical parameters other than heart rate could be revealed by data collected from the temple. Professionals, high-performance athletes, and health-conscious individuals who are ready to spend more for continuous metabolic and recovery data are the primary target users of the device.

Earlier this year, Temple was valued at about $190 million and raised $54 million. Within a matter of months, the startup's valuation would have more than doubled if the planned investment round were to close at $500 million. With an eye toward a more widespread commercial launch, the firm has been increasing both its workforce size and its product development initiatives. The business has joined an increasing number of businesses this year that have given liquidity to their employees by launching their first ESOP liquidity programme.
