Uber Expands India Footprint with New Technology Centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad

By the end of 2027, Uber intends to establish two substantial technology centers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Consequently, this shows Uber's stronger dedication towards India in the long run. The business is currently increasing its presence in the field of engineering and infrastructure in a rapidly developing market.

According to various media reports, Uber's chief executive, Dara Khosrowshahi, made the announcement during a town hall meeting held at the company's Bengaluru office on 14 May. Currently, Uber is investing heavily in digital infrastructure, logistics, and mobility; these new facilities will allow the company to expand its operational and engineering capacity in India.

Uber Going Beyond Ride-Hailing App

Uber also announced a partnership with the Adani Group, an Indian conglomerate, to construct its first data centre in the nation. By the end of the year 2026, this facility should be fully operational. During his most recent trip to India, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi made the announcements. Uber has stated that it will keep hiring technical talent as it increases its investments in artificial intelligence (AI) worldwide, and it already employs about 3,500 people in India.

The organisation is currently seeking candidates for positions in areas such as back-end infrastructure, autonomous vehicle operations, generative AI, and machine learning. As a result of its abundance of qualified software engineers, India has emerged as a major hub for product development and engineering for multinational technology corporations. Uber is increasing its investments in artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and autonomous vehicle technologies in an effort to diversify its revenue streams beyond the ride-hailing industry. Uber poured $330 million into its Indian subsidiary earlier this year to increase its presence there.

Uber’s New Facilities and its Business Roadmap

The two centres in Hyderabad and Bengaluru will reportedly house approximately 9,600 workers. Additionally, the Bengaluru location will span 1.1 million square feet. About five thousand workers will be able to fit in there. The Hyderabad facility, on the other hand, will stretch over 901,115 square feet and will house about 4,600 workers. The facilities will presumably aid Uber's operational, product development, and engineering operations in India. With rivals like Rapido stepping up their game, Uber has been slowly but surely expanding its footprint in India's two-wheeler logistics and mobility ecosystem.

Despite regulatory challenges in multiple Indian states, the company's two-wheeler business has become one of its fastest-growing segments. By establishing new technology hubs, forming partnerships with infrastructure, and increasing capital allocation, Uber appears to be establishing India as a bigger centre for product engineering, mobility innovation, and operational scale. The most recent expansion plans reveal that India will be pivotal to Uber's global growth strategy in the long run, especially with the amount of competition in the ride-hailing and two-wheeler mobility markets.
