WhatsApp Launches Guest Calls, Allows People Without Accounts to Join via Links

WhatsApp has announced guest calling, which enables users without an account to join audio and video calls through invitation links without installing the program. The functionality offers end-to-end encryption, screen sharing, and up to 32 participants on calls.

Joining a WhatsApp call is now possible without using WhatsApp. Meta has begun rolling out guest calling, a feature that allows anyone to join a call via an invitation link without having to download the app or create an account.

All users, including guests, have access to the same fundamentals, such as free calls, end-to-end encryption, and unlimited talk time. In addition to that, they have the ability to raise their hand to talk, reply with a thumbs up or heart emoji, and share their computer screen.

WhatsApp New Feature has Limits

However, there are two conditions that exist. A WhatsApp account is required to initiate a call and generate the link. Because mobile browsers aren't supported just now, guests will also need to open that URL on a computer. A few taps are all it takes to set up a call.

Users can add other individuals to a call by opening the Calls tab, tapping the "+" icon, making a call link, and then sharing it with them. Using either the mobile app or WhatsApp Web, hosts can accomplish this. After that, they can sign up for private or group calls (with a maximum of 32 participants) by typing in their name.

Loaded Features of New WhatsApp Calling

No one can just stroll into a call and start talking. Prior to admission, they are kept in a waiting room, and the host has the right to remove them at any moment. In addition, guests are unable to see the phone numbers of other participants, send messages, or invite others to join the call. This function is great for both one-on-one conversations and group chats that can include up to 32 people. According to WhatsApp, end-to-end encryption in guest calling helps keep conversations safe. Whatsapp introduced online calling in July, and guest calling expands on that.

Along with noise reduction, that upgrade added the ability to transfer an active call from your phone to your PC. The next step is to integrate calendars. A WhatsApp plugin will be available for Outlook and Google Calendar later this year, allowing users to connect their accounts and include a call link in their invitations. There will be a virtual waiting room where all guests must wait until the host lets them in. Furthermore, the host retains control of the discussion and has the option to cut off a participant at any moment.

With a flurry of activities, WhatsApp is transitioning from a personal messaging software to a formidable corporate rival to industry giants like Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Meta is aiming its video conferencing ecosystem squarely at business collaboration and official meetings, rather than at more informal group discussions.
